I felt like they clearly game-planned Stapleton to be a factor because of his height. They have seen ETSU's deficiencies at DB and felt that was a good matchup. It clearly worked because that was the impact player of this game on offense.

RE: Post Game ETSU Thoughts
Dukester is right- JMU needs improvement on the right side of the OL. Others are right, too, in that this was a very good win. ETSU doesn't suck. Were 5-6/2-6 last year. Had a win over playoff Samford. Returned I think 19 starters and almost all their 2 deep. JMU was their I-A game so to speak. I think at minimum they will finish 6-5/4-4. Because of the Div II game they'd probably have to win 8 to make the playoffs. It wouldn't shock me to see them go 8-3/6-2 and be one of the 3-4 So Con playoff teams (So Con got 4 in last year). Will be interesting to see how they do vs the Citadel next week.

I count 14 home OOC games going back over the last 8 seasons to 2010. I know JMU's home OOC since 2008 has sucked a big one, but ETSU might end up being the best home OOC opponent since Liberty in 2010.
Morehead (3 times)
CCSU (3 times)
StFU (3 times)
Liberty (2010) (Finished 8-3)
Alcorn (2012)
Lehigh (2015) (Finished 6-5)
ETSU
NSU

JMU TV is awesome. I rewatched the first half when I got home from the game. It's our mini Texas network. It appeared to me we were able to influence the presentation in favorable ways for JMU. Next to FBS, this might be the best opportunity to market JMU football. Would be very happy if this is more than one year. Great way for alumni to get to know and feel the program. Great for recruits.

Defense for the first three quarters was dominant and overwleming. What you would hope for in this game against a ETSU.

Special teams had a wonderful day. Almost had three returns for TDs. Whoever is coaching special teams is doing a great job.

Passing game is good, but the routes don't seem to be as crisp as last year. Where did Riley Stapleton come from? Who says white men can't jump? 03-lmfao I think Klu and Alls will provide a lot to the passing game.

It appears Houston is doing what I had hoped and not just giving away Cole Johnson's redshirt opportunity. I'm sure he won't hesitate to use Cole if needed like he did last year, but it appears Houston won't waste a year for mop up duties.

Love Brian maximizing his running skills, but he's taking too many uneeded hits especially in a game versus a low 1AA.

And an eye opener in yesterday's game - The o-line is not clearly where it needs be
or where I hoped it was after last week's game. There was no place for anyone to run. Against a team like ETSU - the eight in the box does not give me as much comfort. Also - I frequently counted 7 in the box on times I counted. We have a ways to go. I did see Liam in some on special teams. Would not surpise me if some of these young transfers don't start to get more time and could be starters by year end.

I think Marshall will soon be our best back. While it was hard to tell with no holes to run through I thought Marshall was more impactful last night than Johnson. I think he's going to be something special for us although we have 3 great backs.

Oh yeah - was great in the Club to finally able to take alcohol to your seats during the game. Not sure why this was not allowed in the past.

What do you mean by 'JMU TV'?

JMU owned that broadcast. We bought and paid for it no different than paying for an infomercial to sell your product. My hats off to finding the money to make it happen. If some time were given I feel confident selling more adds would not be all that big of a task, but with only a week, somebody did a great job.

Guess we're talking about the Learfield production and not Madizone/CAA.tv

Tivo'd it and watched it later. Thought it was well done overall, though found all the Learfield logos flashing across the screen a bit distracting. Hope they gave a discount or some ad money to JMU for doing that.

Overall, admin does deserve credit for putting this together, though we better start now on any basketball games worth airing. I don't imagine CAA will have a lot to offer there either that isn't already in place.

you made a bunch of great points, but these two are my favorite. I've been saying we should get rid of thunder sticks since about.... idk, 2008? clapping/yelling/stomping (if you're on the new side) is definitely the way to go. more persistent noise.

while we're talking about stomping... and this is probably going to piss someone off but whatever. "drum roll" style stomping > "stomping in rhythm with other fans". not going to make a big thing about it, but the drum roll style is the way to go. again, more persistent noise. no, it's not a big deal. just saying.

Schor taking those big hits definitely worries me. that's two weeks in a row. in the open field, he's good about sliding. but sometimes he lowers the shoulder and I have a heart attack every time.

I agree about the Learfield logos. The only other improvement that I would like to see is for the onscreen graphics to have integration with our game clock system. If you watch the broadcast, you can see they have camera's focused on the game clock and play clock. That is very old school. Madizone in comparison (and CSN last year and ESPN) somehow integrate with our system and don't have video of the clocks in the stadium.

I only watched the first half of my recording and there were several dropouts (i.e. the screen went black and no audio) for a few seconds. Did anyone else see this?

I didn't have any drop outs but whoever was supposed to change the down and yardage graphic was doing a horrible job.

It would also be nice to have the line of scrimmage and first down line shown but I can live without it.

4th play pass - 7 players in the box
5th play pass - 8 in the box
6th play - 8 in the box rush for 1
7th play - 6 in the box rush for no gain
8th play - 6 in the box run

Next series
we got the ball inside their 10 so goalline defense...

Next Series

8 in the box - 2 yards rushing
7 in box - pass
7 in the box - QB draw for 9 yards
7 in the box - pass
Can't tell from TV - but pass
Then inside 10 so goaline defense.

next series
8 in the box - pass
7 in the x - run for 6
7 in the box - pass
6 in the box - pass
7 in box - pass
6 in box - Schor runs fo no gain

6 in the box - 10 yard rush
7 in the box - pass
7 in the box - pass
6 in the box - pass
7 in the box - pass
Could not tell - but pass
6 in the box - pass
6 in the box - pass.

Getting boring, but where are all the 8 and 9s in the boxes?

Also if you crowd the line of scrimmage - that usually opens you up for long runs. We had none.....

What I noticed was exactly as you state but at the snap a couple DB's would head straight for the line of scrimmage. Though not technically in the box, they sold out prior to the snap and left our passing game open for the taking. They mixed it up on who would commit trying to confuse our blockers and we didn't pursue the use the run game like we normally would since the passing was working well.

I included the backs that were cheating up - If I included numbers of backs in the box at snap it would of been lower,,,

Yes that was part of the frustration of last night and why I feel that they really do have a solid defense. There was hardly any missed tackles by them last night. Their first defender pursued and brought us down, every time. We have no home run plays in terms of yardage, only modest ones at best.
Their defense was fast and disciplined. It's clear Torbush is a good defensive coach and has probably out recruited for a school like etsu.
NSU should have many more missed tackles and mistakes next week. If it's still a 52-10 game against them with 122 rushing yards, then yeah, reason for concern.
We CANNOT have schor still in that late and taking contact. That was hands down the most disappointing part of last night. What is MH doing?

Winning? 04-cheers

I assume your question is made tongue in cheek.

Only on JMU's board will you find second guessing after a 52-10 victory. 05-nono

I can understand how from your standpoint if we beat ETSU 52-10 every unit must of played well. If we beat Norfolk state by 21 next week, they might as well give us the NC.

The logic of your post escapes me, but if JMU defeats all opponents 52-10 then will you be satisfied? 03-lmfao

By the way, what was your season W-L prediction for JMU? 07-coffee3

Longhorn,

Don't think I made a prediction, but if I did it would probably be 9.75 wins meaning I think we'll probably lose one along the way, but more like to win 10 than 9.

I did not say I was not satisfied with a 52-10 score. I was very satified with a 42 point win. You misquoted me, I did not misquote you. I listed all the many things I thought went well and also the area where we need to improve throughout the season.

I don't look at a blowout and think everyone played great. I promise you some of the lowest grades on the team will be on the offensive line. If you feel in week 2 everyone played great since we won by 42 that is certainly your option.

I'm pretty shocked more people were not excited about how well the broadcast went. I noticed the Learfield popups - but so what? That are games are televised with paid announcers that showed JMU in a favorable light was HUGE to me. I know this is not ABC, FOX, or ESPN - but was not expecting it to be. But - it wasn't that bad.

As I said, it's not as good as going to FBS, but it's the next best thing to me. The more people get an opportunity to see our team and program - the better for us in the short run, and the long run.

I'm with ya, no complaints. My fear is being able to keep this up. Pretty much everyone knew the Dukes would be good this year, what happens when our coaching staff changes or we don't have the horses we have today? It is a must that we spread the word and get the viewership up as much as possible. I will give JB all the credit he deserves in making this happen.

hburg - SlingBox has done wonders for my sports viewing overseas. I highly recommend the investment, although it can be technically arduous at times. Still, we watch Verizon Fios programming out of Richmond, VA in Tbilisi, Georgia or anywhere else we go. (The Republic of Georgia, not the state)
