Yes.. yes.. I know we're only a couple weeks into the season and WAC play is still about a week and a half off but here are the current standings:



The Cougars started off the season winning one of three in the Leatherneck Invitational, but since then they have been on a roll. They've won at Bradley, just swept the EIU Panther Classic (beating in-state schools WIU and EIU), and will have the chance to knock off NIU (0-11) on the road tonight. They're off to their best start in Division I history (keep in mind that the most wins in a season since turning D1 in 1988 is 12).

If you remember, Chicago State was given no confidence at all in the preseason vote as they were voted to finish last in the conference by all other WAC members. Hopefully they'll be able to continue this early success into conference play. It would be nice for the Cougars to experience the taste of winning in at least one sport.

GCU had been off to a hot start as well before losing all three matches in the GCU Tournament. UTRGV (picked to finish 2nd) has played some major programs so their W/L is a little skewered, but NMSU is off to a solid start.

Women's volleyball is by far not my most knowledgeable sport so I'm sure others can contribute to this better than I can; however, I had to share my excitement about the Cougars early success!

Thanks Pojoaque and Ben! SU was expected to be fifth in conference so I'm sure they'll be a tough out on conf play! Unfortunately, I must have had wishful thinking in CSU playing NIU because the match is actually against UIC. UIC is a lot better than NIU, and currently up 2-0 on the Cougars. Not looking good today.

Chicago State back on top, congratulations.

UTRGV is finally climbing back a bit but we really need to take out NMSU this weekend.

A little update to this. CSUB has started WAC play 4-0 and are 11-8 overall including a 5 set win Saturday against Utah Valley. They also beat Cal State Fullerton to extend their win streak to 5 matches. UTRGV is the only other undefeated team in conference. The early football games were really bad that day so I tuned in and it was a really fun match. Very entertaining sport to watch. Big road trip next week for CSUB against top two favorites UTRGV and NMSU. They host winless in WAC play GCU Friday. So for those who care there ya go.

From what I've seen the conference is ranked around 19th which isn't a lot different from last year.

Chicago State is back to their normal losing selves, unfortunately. Glad to see a strong start by UTRGV! They were picked to do well so it shouldn't come as a surprise. Hopefully they'll continue to get those W's. At this rate, I'll be hoping for just a qualification into the tourney for CSU!

That is more than we can hope for here at GCU. Assuming GCU doesn't make the tournament, which they wont, then I will be cheering for CSU.
