I feel like they're either going to be a mediocre caa team or they'll be that team that looks like they'll finally lose... yet continues to eek out wins somehow.

UNH and Villanova look to be the scary opponents.. Not worried about the Ticks.

I agree. UNH and VU are the caa teams to beat through two weeks. UR looks like they're declining and Rocco or not, UD hasn't impressed so far, especially offensively. WM is a non-factor still. They have no offense.

I partly agree. A CAA power poll at this point doesn't mean much, but if I was doing one I'd have the top 3 JMU, UNH, VU.

But like I said earlier, Maine looked at least as good as UNH in a game Maine should have won, and Maine just beat Bryant 60-12. Am as equally concerned about Maine as I am UNH.

I don't know who UNH paid off at the CAA with their schedule.. Miss RU, VU, and UD. Their remaining schedule:
-@ HC
-URI
-Bryant
-@ SBU
-TU
-@ JMU
-@ W&M
-Elon
-@ Albany
I see losses for them @ JMU, @ W&M (McDonnell 0-7 in Williamsburg) and one of the NY teams. So they'll be in the playoffs again..

VU might be solid, but they barely beat a Lehigh team 38-35, who just got beat by Monmouth by 46-27..After 2 weeks Colgate (won @ Cal Poly) looks to be the team to beat in Patriot, and RU beating Colgate by 3 right now tops VU beating Lehigh by 3 IMHOP.

Its hard to say if VU only losing to Temple 16-13 means anything. Week 1 Temple got rolled by an unranked Notre Dame team 49-16, who was 4-8 last year..

Reason being, any time you have a HC and staff change, it can be slow going early on before everyone gets on board - and, often, we see the holdover players never get on board. Also, to be fair, they have had 2 road games against decent-to-good opposition and their schedule pre-SHSU was really mixed up due to Harvey. We'll see on them, but still too early to sell (IMO).

Agreed.

Albany and Stony Brook might be the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the CAA this year. Both had wins last week and solid showings against good FBS teams in week one. SB led a ranked S. Fla. for a good bit. UR and Nova are high in the polls because they have been good historically. I honestly think Nova will finish middle of the pack in the CAA as UNH and Maine both appear to be better teams as well.

UR has no defense right now. Not sure if it is new scheme or lack of talent. Colgate is ranked but they are not an FCS power. UR is likely a middle of the pack CAA school as well.

UD has a good defense but won't do better than 7-4 with their current QB. He simply cannot throw the ball consistently.

Here is my top 8 because who cares about the schools that will not compete for the title:

JMU
SB
UA
UNH
Maine
Nova
UR
UD

Mostly agree. Before the season started I thought the likely 4 CAA playoff teams would coming from 7 of those 8 (all except Albany). Right now I would remove Maine (due to UNH loss and schedule) and maybe add Albany.

Last month I mentioned on the pre season CAA thread that last season only had 3 of SB's 22 starters were seniors, and only 1 of their 8 All CAA selections was a senior.

I think Albany will need to get Ibitokun Hanks back to be a playoff contender.
https://dailygazette.com/article/2017/09...or-ualbany

I think Maine is the least likely of the remaining 6 due to their schedule. After a bye week they have the likely toughest 9 week stretch in the CAA:
-@ JMU
-@ UCF
-@ VU
-URI
-@Albany
-W&M
-@ UMass
-UD
-SBU
They miss RU, Elon, and TU. Their loss @ UNH really hurt their chances.

I think you can pencil in JMU and UNH as 2 of the CAA playoff teams (again UNH with their wins over Maine and GSU & favorable schedule (miss VU, RU, UD). The other 2, maybe 3, coming from among the 2 NY teams, VU, RU, UD.

No they didn't. They have probably the easiest CAA schedule in the conference. They will be walking into the postseason unless they suffer a number of unexpected upsets.
All the HC loss did was show they probably aren't an elite caa team and likely won't beat us if we play to our potential. Their defense is suspect, just like UR's.

I have not read the game stats of the UNH loss to HC, but from the final score it appears that UNH got smoked. If HC beat UNH that bad, any CAA can do it. I wouldn't make UNH a lock for the playoffs until they win 8 games.

RE: FCS Showing Up Today
The CAA went 10-1, and all 10 winners allowed 21 or fewer points. Towson went down with 2:24 left and made a walk-off field goal, and Elon held on when a potential walk-off field goal missed. The CAA teams had an average score of 39 to 16. You won by so much that Villanova led 49-0 at halftime and didn't have the biggest margin of victory in the CAA.

If you made an FCS Poll from the Sagarin, here are the CAA teams:

2. James Madison
13. Villanova
15. Richmond
22. New Hampshire
24. Stony Brook

The CAA has 10 out of 12 teams in the top half of FCS. The Missouri Valley has all 10 teams in the top half, with half its teams in the Top 100, which is a higher percentage than four out of five FBS non-Power 5 conferences. 7 Missouri Valley teams are ahead of Villanova, and 8 are ahead of Stony Brook. North Dakota State is the top FCS team and is ahead of 36 percent of the 64 Power 5 teams.

In the last 19 complete years, the CAA/Atlantic 10 has an average Sagarin ranking among FCS conferences of 2.5. The CAA/Atlantic 10 was the top FCS conference 6 times and among the top half every time. Last year the CAA had the champion while ranking third, which is worse than their 19 year average.

Didn't know Hofstra fans were interested in football. Maybe you guys should think about starting a team one day?

They're going to lose to JMU. And right now either NY team beating them wouldn't be an upset. I agree with what Nation said last week. The 2 NY teams might be the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the CAA right now. UNH losing to either wouldn't be unexpected.

I said last week you could pencil them in for the playoffs. But I (and virtually everyone else) didn't see UNH losing to HC, much less getting pummeled like they did.
