Should they land at VB I can see the ODU VB campus turning into a computer science HQ for the school.

Imagine what all those jobs (and salaries) could do for the region and the local university programs. (Think of all the donors!)

It's a long shot, but it would be nice for the area.

This would be huge if it happened.

RE: OT: VB attempting to attract Amazon for it's 2nd headquarter location
I don't want to be a negative nancy, but here I go. If I were Amazon, I would rule out VB pretty quickly. The area of corporate landing is decently far from the interstate (~15 minutes without the traffic that 50k employees with bring), is a dead zone of mass transit and quite frankly the entire area of Hampton roads has done a horrendous job at attempting mass transit, and our airport is superiorly inferior. There are no direct flights to anywhere besides the hubs. Why wouldn't they skip that step and locate in a major city?

I appreciate the mayor attempting, but I can't see Amazon looking past the downgrades of quality of life highlighted above for some tax breaks.

Too bad the residents voted down light rail.

Yeah it is a long shot. Traffic here is already pretty crappy. Can't imagine any of the new workers wanting to live in Hampton / NPN and making that awful commute.

Military Circle / JANAF would be nearly perfect. Study for light rail includes that path. That area could use a redevelopment.

Norfolk also plans to tear up all the project housing. Land close to downtown, easy access to interstate.

Guess we'll see what happens next year.

But alas our great mayor in NFK is concerned about the tax credits that they may want in return for the 50,000 high paying jobs and billions in revenue they will produce. Is this guy extremely low IQ or just BSing because he thinks it would be a waste of time and doesn't want to pursue it.

Traffic can only be so much of a factor given that Amazon is headquartered in Seattle: https://www.geekwire.com/2016/study-traf...ongestion/

If only there was a university nearby that had an economist that ran numbers like this all the time to determine the health of the region and would also be able to see if this would be a net gain in taxes..

If I was mayor, I'd at least attempt it. The other companies that would come to the area as well who would not be looking for credits but talent would / could offset any tax losses to the city.

There some talking going on in Chesapeake about Amazon being interested in the Frank Williams Farm 4000 acres. The city has approved the site for a mega site for development and seeking companies for the site.

There is NO way you could lose money in the long run by having a business of that size, with jobs that pay that well in your city.

I have a little blood in what the city does with the site. I own 174 acres near the site. Between the City, Navy, Army Corp, and VA Department of Game it is impossible to do anything with my land. I am tore between selling out to one of them groups or fighting what seems to be the impossible. Army Corp hit me with a warning that I am no longer allowed to clear my drainage ditches on my farm so when it rains it damages my crops to the point its barely profitable to farm it. State wildlife officers and environmentalist tore up a good part of my farm trying to find fire ants and protected rattlesnakes after planting now I'm getting hell from peta about my damage stamps 07-coffee3

This sounds like a bunch of bull****, I feel for you. 174 acres anywhere in hampton roads sounds like a goldmine until you put it like that

Everyone is doomed with land near and south of Ballahack Rd to one of the government agencies.
