Really contrasting styles between the two. Should be a fun finish!

Well. So much for that. 3-1 Akron.

Zips seal the deal. Nice cross, poor marking.

Akron does what it does and brings us back to earth. It won't be a good feeling to back into the NCAA tournament.

Back in? We won 7 straight and lost to a red hot top 10 team.

I wouldn't say a top 10 team 'backs in' to the tournament.

Thats all. Akron certainly deserved the win.

WMU should still be in great position for a first round bye and a home tournament match.

RE: WMU Men's Soccer
Hey guys. Just wanted to say congratulations on your season. Your team is very, very good and will probably remain in the top ten. I can't tell you how great it is to see another MAC program be successful in this sport. A little institutional support and the right coach can turn you into a national powerhouse. Here's to both us us having deep tournament runs.

For those interested, the selection show for the NCAA tournament is tomorrow (Monday) at 1:00PM. It's usually shown on the ESPNews channel. The NCAA tournament works a little differently than March Madness. The top sixteen seeds are numbered, and the remaining 32 teams are unseeded. The bracket is largely geography-based. There are six rounds. The top sixteen teams get a 1st-round bye. The next three rounds are held on campus sites based on seeding. The last two rounds are called the College Cup where the four remaining teams duke it out on a neutral site (This year it's at Talen Energy Stadium in Philly. It's a beautiful MLS stadium.) The goal during the regular season is to earn a top-4 seed, since that gives you home-field advantage all the way up to the College Cup.

Good luck tomorrow, and be proud. 04-cheers

Thanks, Kid! It's a great new foray for our program. It should be pretty fun to see what happens next. Sorry for the terrible weather today. Next time we'll have a nicer day for your guys.

We're going to take a big step back next year with the four big seniors gone and (haven't heard anything, but I suspect) possibly the coach as well. Hopefully we get some recruiting momentum out of this.

NCAA called us the "Feel good story of the tournament"

After a 1st round bye, we've got the winner of Albany vs. Maryland AT HOME in the 2nd round! 02-13-banana

WMU is the 10th overall seed.

Looks like even soccer is not outside the realm of the NCAA corruptness/money grab. MSU was not inside the top 10 in RPI or Polls yet got the 7 overall seed. Big bonus since they now get two guaranteed games at home being in the top 8.

To be fair, MSU did beat us this season. If you have wins in any sport against highly-seeded tournament teams, it's going to help your seeding.

I’m not saying WMU should be seeded higher since they lost to them but other teams have beefs. Their seed is 5-7 positions higher than polls/rpi. I didn’t see any other team seeded as poorly up or down. When you are talking home tourney games, seeding is huge.

RE: WMU Men's Soccer
MSU was seeded unfairly high, but who cares.
The statement that we "backed in" to the ncaa's is ridiculous as is speculating about our coach leaving before next year. Why would he leave a program that is top ten in the country? Is Virginia or NC looking to hire a new coach or something? Why even get this kind of speculation going. It adds nothing positive to the discussion and it fuels a perception that we are not top tier. (In soccer and hockey, we are top tier, by the way).
Anyway, this would be a great time to go on another 5 game winning streak. Go Broncos.

RE: WMU Men's Soccer
The speculation makes more sense than it would in hockey. Outside of this year neither the MAC nor WMU has been "top tier" (yes, Akron is every year but that's it). Wiseman is not paid that way either, at least not yet.

I hope they're in negotiations with him. Perhaps the money is there, after all they did spend a good amount renovating the soccer complex. Nonetheless I firmly disagree with your take on this. WMU hadn't been to an NCAA tournament in 14 years and loses arguably their four best players to graduation. There is every reason to believe that Wiseman may be looking around, and if soccer was covered like FB or hoops I guarantee we'd be hearing about it.

All the more reason to enjoy what's happening.

I've been figuring all season that some Big Ten school will try to make a run at Wiseman. Tired of losing to him/WMU.

He's been very good at spotting kids and getting transfers the past few years, in addition to recruiting the talent.

Only reason he would leave is if WMU shows they are unwilling to back him financially... program is at its peak and the University needs to fund it as such... even if that includes giving your coach a raise... or a bonus structure that makes his salary more than competitive if he can keep winning here...

RE: WMU Men's Soccer
In regards to MSU's ranking:

I remember in 2012 when we won the CCHA or 2011 when we got to the Championship game, MSU was more-or-less a a .500 team that got into the National Tourney and got an easier matchup then we did.

Also, let's be honest, Big 10 soccer is probably a tougher conference then MAC soccer (outside of Akron of course)

Coach Wiseman loves west Michigan, he loves coaching at Western. But he won't and can't stay if they don't fund his program competitively. And he should be paid a salary that will keep him here.
