Although Doeren went to NC State, he should be a consideration.

Scotty Montgomery has three wins at ECU in two years and one of the three was over NC State. Y'all can him back if State fires we don't want him lol. Plus NC State is our arch rival. I would be happy with coach Kill though.

To be fair, Doeren was only here 2 years so it's hard to say how good he is. We did win the MACC both years, though he mostly had players from Kill and Novak.

He was certainly the best coach we have had since Novak NIU doesn't win a championship without him. Best in game coach probably ever at NIU

NC State and ECU are not rivals lol
You're so wrong you have no clue. We play them Home and Home and have won the last three in a row. It is a bitter hate filled rivalry that quite frankly you wouldn't know anything about .
i lived in Raleigh for 3 years, it's not a rivalry. ECU is (was?) a good program and they've gotten the better of State plenty of times, but that doesn't make it a rivalry.
Brother I don't care where you lived you don't know what the hell you're talking about .

Probably depends on perspective.
I would imagine while you were there 7, you were around NC State people who would single out UNC as their rival. However, Bleeds-purple reflects the views of ECU fans.
It's like asking Huskie fans who their MAC rival is and we say Toledo. You ask Toledo fans who their rival is and their first response is Bowling Green.
Same as NIU fans delight in beating the Rockets, the Pirates relish wins over State. But just like the UT-BGSU series dates back much further, the NC State-UNC series is the same.

RE: Jeff Compher Jerry Kill
Jerry Kill was a recruiting machine and Dave Doeren benefited from that. Still coach Doeren won two MAC championships which is not easy to do so he was a good coach without a long enough body of work at NIU to truly evaluate him as a complete package. By that I mean that we do not know how he would have done with his own recruits and if he could or could not have sustained a winning program over an extended period of time.

I would be surprised if Kill is ever a head coach again. He suffered a minor seizure this weekend.

Losing to EMU will do that to a person.

What the **** did you just say?

That comment is in the MDawg Hall of Fame of stupidity.

Part of what he said is true. Kill was a decent coach , kind of see him like a Renteria type manager. He is a stable influence , but not going to win a championship with him. I think what was unreal with Kill was that he tried to take credit for what Novak did in rebuilding an entire program. That had to be one of the most selfish asinine comments I have seen in awhile. Kill was a good seat warmer coach in that things didn't derail while he was here but really needed coach like Doeren to become championship level. Always will appreciate the Justin Anderson fake punt call at Purdue though. Huskies probably lose that game without it

exactly, he acted like he built it and had nothing to do with the build. he rode Novak's coattails. then jumped at the first shot he had (can't blame him for that, that's what mid-majors do)

Coach Novak was an amazing coach and even a better man. However, Kill took over an injury riddled 2-10 team from Coach Joe and turned them around pretty fast. He also converted us from a Pro Style single back offense to the spread. Kill was a damn good recruiter as well and had a nieche for finding diamonds in the rough. Lynch, Ward, Spann, Lewis, Moore, Brescacin, Melvin and I'm sure I'm missing a lot more. Doeren was by far the best in game coach, but he won and went to the Orange Bowl with a majority of Kill's players

We won that MACC the year after Kill left because of sheer will & determination ...Chandler Harnish would not let it end any other way. He led our team to that championship & Dave Doeren was basically along for the ride. Just my HO ...but I was there. I saw it happen. Same as with the bowl game we won that year. Skeleton coaching staff with Tuke & grad assistants but a very very determined QB & team.

No way HFA, I just cannot go along with that. Huskies do not win that game without Doeren. Best in-game coach at NIU, probably ever
