Looks like Liberty will try to emulate the independent BYU model. To date Liberty has 22 football games scheduled with P5 schools over the next 12 years plus a couple more against BYU. They really are an amazing athletic story IMO.

I'd be all for adding Liberty if they were truly the BYU of the east coast. If they can't get 20K to a football game, they are not there. They can build up from the C-USA or Sunbelt.

Their present stadium only seats 19,000. Probably why they 'can't get to 20K.' Liberty's stadium will be expanded to 30,000 and can be expanded to 60,000.

that is fine...I want to see them draw over 30K on a regular basis. Then with an AAC schedule they could draw 40K. We have 12 members so expansion would take something really special like BYU or Army.

Fair enough. With digital media and with the potential national evangelical draw there I see a huge upside with Liberty there. Probably moot since it looks like they might have settled on football independence for now.

If they can pull off the BYU model and build a large fanbase (and viewers), I'd be the first one to say add them. BYU has been around forever and they also have the benefit of having kids two years older than any other team in the NCAA.

^ what a shock...the conservative evangelical wants the conservative evangelical school.

CUSA and Sun Belt already turned them down...plus, they have no TV market.

not just 'no'....'hell naw!'

I've been around long enough to recognize a bubble when I see it. Liberty's meteoric rise is based almost exclusively on revenue made from their online school. Anything that increases that fast has got to have a fatal flaw in it somewhere. If the revenue decreases substantially, it'll be the end of Liberty as a player. I'm waiting for the inevitable balloon to burst.

Parents in Dallas not happy with the high pressure sales tactics they are using on prospective students. Nephew laughed when they tried to get him to sign enrollment docs when Liberty visited his high school.

Something the conference has to consider is that we're developing a collective identity. Stability is not a bad thing, and it's letting us define ourselves. Liberty has almost no similarities with the schools in this conference, so I see no point in even considering them. Short term money might end up being good, but as others already mentioned the long term gain is slim to none.

I'm not even a religious person so quit pretending you know my personal preferences when you have no clue. Your posts appear to speak more to your 'hang ups" than anything else.

They do not have a $1B endowment. Not by the definition of university endowment.

All you have to do is google ' Liberty University endowment' and you'll see that they do --- and you'll see it reported as such at a number of sites.
That's not how it works. That's not how any of this works.
