Miami at AState
I guess the Miami team decided they would rather ride out a Cat4 hurricane than spend the weekend in Jonesboro....

They said they were concerned about being able to get back after the game. Still seems a little strange to me though.

Yea, I feel bad for A-State and Jonesboro. That would have been a big day for them.

Seems to me like Arkansas State was unwilling to compromise.

stAte offered to move the game to Friday, but Miami declined. Anticipated trouble getting back home after the game.

Thought they were going to stay in Memphis, even if they had stayed over. Oh well.

Lets hope everyone gets through this safely.

I can easily see why they wouldn't want to play that game, and it has nothing to do with football.

Getting back is going to be a mess and there are far better uses of the resources it would entail that simply playing a football game.

I hate that Memphis is having to possibly cancel the UCF game, or cancel another game to make that game happen. But, once again, it is nothing compared to what Florida is facing over the next couple of days.

Pleeeeeaaaaase...

Miami didn't want to play that game anyway...The way it stands Miami got a buy game without having to pay the money.

If they where playing Michigan or Ohio State they would have been there, they had nothing to gain playing AState in Jonesboro.

Well from what I have read I don't think their coach was thrilled about coming to Jonesboro, but they offered to reschedule the game for Oct 7th, but A-State has a mid-week conference game and did not want to, or could not get it changed.

The Miami AD did say that while their OOC schedule was full for a couple of years they would probably reschedule the game IF A-State wanted too.

A-State AD said they have asked the SBC to look at them getting a waver to play 13 games next year but is not optimistic.

It appears Miami is working in good faith to reschedule the game in Jonesboro.

They worked in good faith to reschedule this year. I see nothing to criticize Miami in any of this, and totally agree with calling the game off.

Bummer for A-State fans and players, but they will wake up tomorrow, 0-1, rather than 0-2, and a beautiful day to look forward to.

Heaven knows what the Miami players will face tomorrow.

Football might even take a backseat in Florida for awhile..they will need to see how much of it is left before moving forward. Can only wait for the freakstorm to move and shut down.

I haven't seen some of our Florida posters here for awhile either. This storm is pretty gut wrenching.

Did our equipment people ever get back through the traffic? Yesterday we heard they were stuck. I am assuming our cheerleaders made it back.

Calkins wrote about it. Haven't seen a followup on when they got back home, but assuming they did: http://www.commercialappeal.com/story/sp...647063001/

Then this. Dr. Rudd gets it:

I wonder when they went out there. May have been early in the week, or at least you would think so.

Really?

This is your angle and focus?

That is along the lines of she asked for it.

The resources needed for a Florida colleges to travel are much greater than a high school, and those resources were not needed elsewhere. As I post south Florida is getting smacked, and that is well before the bulk of the storm heads up.

Whether you agree or not, let's focus.
