Tiger Lane for a visiting fan
My wife and I will be visiting Memphis for the first time to see the UCLA - Memphis football game next week. We were planning on taking Uber to Tiger Lane to see the festivities.

Is there a "fan zone" or do fans do things on their own? At the Rose Bowl, if you don't want to bring your own tailgate accoutrements there is plenty of food and drink to buy at the "Fan Zone", plus the band, cheerleaders, etc.

I went to the UCLA - Texas game in Dallas a couple years ago and went to the "official" UCLA tailgate and wasn't impressed. A bunch of old farts hanging around a bad buffet. Looking for a better experience.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: Tiger Lane for a visiting fan
There's a large common area in the middle of Tiger Lane. They have grills available for use and inflatables for the kids. Can't say there's much of an organized fan zone, though. Most people just party at their own tailgates. It's a friendly atmosphere, though. People come and go through the tailgates.

Bring a small cooler with a six pack so that you don't look like a total freeloader. Be nice and spark up a conversation. You'll be offered plenty of free booze and food. It's actually an easier "in" than the BBQ contest. Everyone will be hospitable. The kickoff time is perfect for a guest.

Be mindful there will be a HUGE local arts festival in the area, Cooper-Young. Traffic will be quite congested that morning, even early. I would leave quite early and know where you are going to park. If you have no plans after the game, the festival is fun, and the restaurants there are great, except they will be packed.

RE: Tiger Lane for a visiting fan
the Alumni association generally sets up in the building and has food/drinks for those not already tailgating. I think it's $15/pp for non-alumni members.
But as others have said, the most fun is walking all throughout Tiger Lane meeting people, with many offering to share in their bounty lol. I recommend this above all else.

Tiger Walk on Tiger Lane is generally 2.5 hours before kickoff. The band / cheerleaders / fans line of on each side creating a tunnel for the team & players to go through when the buses arrive. Always a fun time and definitely shouldn't miss it being your first time. Tom III will be on hand to see at the same area.

Other than the alumni food, there's nothing you can buy to eat outside of the stadium generally, but plenty of options inside once you go in.

Assuming the weather is good, Tiger Lane should be hopping. Its really our first tailgating opportunity this season after Harvey crashed the party in our season opener.

The Pipkin building (right next to the grassy area on Tiger Lane) is what MemTigerFan is talking about. It is $10/person, but since it's a morning game they'll likely have things like sausage biscuits and fruit instead of the usual BBQ.

It's 15 if you aren't a season ticket holder.

How do they know if you are a season ticket holder?

I don't think it's season ticket holders, I believe it's Alumni members. Have to show your card or your app showing your a current member to get the discount.
