If he is successful he will have the choice to leave and we have to start over.

If he sucks and we fire him we sucked for a couple of years so that is a lose as well.

It's gonna get a lot worse.

At this point, I don't think it would be the worst idea in the world to give Penny a shot. We can't get much lower than where we are now. If Penny can rejuvenate the fan base and get recruiting going, I think we could create some positive momentum. At this point, I'm not sure if there are many other coaches (that would have interest in the Memphis job) that could do that better than Penny could for Memphis.

That being said, I'm really interested to see how this season goes. I'll be a happy camper if Tubby can get this ship turned around.

Or we could hire a young guy who's proven he can win at another school first like we should've done last time

The next cal or Greg Marshall or what have you is out there, winning at buffalo or utep or somewhere like that.

I'm pretty sure he isn't happy.

His body language shows an unhappy man. Tubby - with his experience at Kentucky - should have known his performance to date will create pressure upon him at Memphis. We are not Tx Tech or Minnesota.

As John Madden said "Winning is a great deodorant."
If he starts winning...people will be happy with him. I'm pretty sure that would make his life a lot easier.

Ultimately, winning sufficiently is the only thing that matters barring legal issues or NCAA violations. Unfortunately, there is little evidence at the moment he is on the right track.

I just feel that penny would be our best and quickest rebuild option. He could for sure get some of those phenom type players quickly. We also would be able to count on his loyalty if he is a home run.

You think this board would wait to see results before turning on him? It would be a first. Possible, since he's a local legend. But doubtful.

We didn't turn on Tubby, the man, but his three year plan is sketchy.
Some people like to attack. Some like to defend.

Some look at what's happening and get ready for anything. Win or lose, some are ready for both.

Penny is a Memphis legend, but the performance standard should not be lowered for him or any other coach at Memphis.

I believe you are wrong.

It might not be Penny (I am not sure he even wants the job) but after apathy takes its toll, those remaining will turn to someone to lead us back to relevancy. It is likely going to be a rough season.

I think Penny would be great ! :) , but i would hate to see the basketball "mind surgeon's" we have around here try to dice him up,
I know he could do it . The kids would come to learn but it would take time...

I will say again, I am 100% behind Penny. I would take 1 Penny over HC Tubby with 3 AC Tubby coaches.

I don't know how it would translate to college recruiting, but one thing Penny believes in is stacking talent. He is basically coaching a D1 starting lineup right now. Look at East High, his AAU teams and even his weekend Men's League teams lol. He ain't trying come in second place in the skills level department. That's not an option. His teams are also well disciplined and play together.
