Wichita fans are delusional.

Here is another way of answering the question. If a separate forum is created for BB, will there be any posts on it except for Feb-Mar and will the football forum be busy all year?

I vote for a separate forum.

If you asked random people to name 5 colleges with sports in the U.S., my guess is the list would look something like this:

Notre Dame
Texas
Stanford
Michigan
Alabama

Not sure it would be slanted toward one sport or another but more based on brand recognition, but these all look like football schools to me.

Is this a real question?

Notre Dame football has an NBC contract. No basketball school has anything like it.

I remember this issue of SI back in 2002:

RE: The Brand of College Athletics
My passion is college basketball.
My interest in football in general is weakening.
I will passively watch the NFL on Sundays.
I have no interest in college football with the way it's ran and the pathetic makeup of its postseason.
I have even less interest in college football that generates its best teams to the Bad Boys Mowers Bowl.
I do however acknowledge that football popularity supersedes basketball popularity by a wide margin, no matter how badly I disagree with it.

Consider the impact on the AAC of each sport.

Without football the AAC would not exist.
Without basketball, the AAC would exist.

This thread is not about the popularity of football vs. basketball though, it's about brand recognition which can transcend the sports being played for many different reasons. I'm working on extending my polling beyond a forum populated by fans of a conference that is mediocre in football and sucks in basketball. I suspect my polling would run far different in a major ACC forum.

P.S. Of course I have an ulterior motive which won't see the light of day until I get more data.
