It's a pretty commonly used adjective.

I won't deny that people in New York probably talk like that.

Around these parts however, whenever the phrase "those people" is used, it's usually a phrase meant for minorities.

I won't dispute that, but do you think Trump is more likely using the phase as someone from El Paso would, or someone from New York would.

Probably just his NY state of mind. Someone should advise him however how some people perceive a phrase like that.

Someone should advise you on what "you people" means. But I get the impression you already know and will do it anyway.

I'm not the President of the United States and I don't have the American people hanging on my every word.

Yet you repeatedly use the phrase "you people". Why is that? Hypocrite much?

The media? What about the President? The man never misses an opportunity to make every event into an us verses them thing.

This guy doesn't care about the damage he is doing as long as everyone is talking about him.

Hasn't he been part of the media a long time? It's hard to separate the two. Just because he pretends to not like it now, doesn't mean that he isn't still part of it. It wasn't long ago that he was still hanging with Mika and Joe.

I would say that the end of civility began with the internet, and its death blow was the birth of social media.

That's not to say we were all civil before that. It is just that uncivil behavior became a socially accepted norm after.

I can agree with that. Before social media, people thought that there was a time and a place for news and it was fairly limited.

What I think social media really did was kill individual thought. It takes nothing to get people to take sides these days.

People get their news from a lot of different sources nowadays. I think it's unfair to blame the media or social media exclusively.

One thing is for sure however, The POTUS isn't doing much in the way of uniting us that 's for sure.

All of those different sources: the media. It also doesn't matter how many sources you get news from if they all share your bias.

Didn't realize he alienated half the country by calling them "deplorables"

I typically say "some people" I don't think I've every used the phrase "you people".

If I did, it was an accident because as I have said before, that phrase is loaded.

if you are talking about the "courteous and polite" definition, little is "civil" about war, but there are examples of enemies acting civil during combat.

I know my neighbors, talk to the parents at lacrosse and gymnastics, have friends over for dinner and drinks, etc etc. I can count on one hand the number of political comments we make at each other.

One hand.

I have found that disconnecting from media on weekends is helpful. I recently wired up my house with speakers and now we rock some tunes instead of TV. Facebook is used mostly by my wife to post kid pics, and I use it to follow-up on family and a few friends and long ago blocked the more vocal political imbeciles.

And I think most Americans are exactly like me in the above regards.

So don't lose hope.

You live in the Midwest. That's what Midwesterners do. Midwesterners can also disagree about politics without thinking the opponent is Satan/Hitler.

I moved to California 2 years ago from the Midwest. Californians are NOT civil to one another, and if you're not 100% in agreement then you're considered pure evil.
