My first thought was - "Yeah, that sounds like a great idea."

Then I looked it up. Dang. Alcorn St. is so far back in the woods it takes sunlight an extra day to get there. 70 miles SW of Jackson & 30 miles NNE of Natchez.

It looks like a beautiful place they've made for a campus, surrounded by 10,000 acres of pine trees.

I've been down there. You drive down a road to nowhere and boom, a college campus just appears out of the blue.

Its a hard place to get to on gamedays. Two lane road from Vicksburg until you arrive on campus. Great atmosphere though.

FIU needs all the practice and "easy" wins they can get. Without this game, FIU could very well go winless this year.

FIU is in for a rude awakening if they think Alcorn is an easy win. Alcorn is dismantled by injuries last year but when healthy they're dangerous. Ask Southern Miss.

Miami cancelled their game at Ark. St.? I smell a fish. They are saying they are keeping the team IN Miami for their safety. I think I will throw the BS flag on that one. They just don't want to honor that game at Ark. State. I would be pissed if that happened to us.

Even if tickets are free, I guarantee that lady at the gate is going to expect $8 before she lets me park the car.

Devils advocate : It might be really difficult to get home from Jonesboro.

1 hour drive to Memphis. Not that hard. Of course, the Miami flight will probably be canceled.

RE: FIU to play in Birmingham Friday?
Guys, if you want to keep us informed of the game, that would be great.

http://pro32.ap.org/article/latest-fiu-w...birmingham

Quote:FIU's home opener will get played, a long way from home.

The Panthers will meet Alcorn State on Friday night in Birmingham, Alabama. The game was to be played Saturday night in Miami, but had to be moved because of the anticipated impact of Hurricane Irma.

FIU will leave for Alabama on Thursday, and has secured all the charter flights, buses and hotel rooms it will need to accommodate the travel party. There are plans in place for the Panthers to stay in the Birmingham area through the weekend — if Irma keeps them from returning safely to Miami.

If the game was not moved to a neutral site, it would have been unlikely to be rescheduled.

And their next game is in Tallahassee. They could spend the week practicing in another location instead of being in what could potentially be a disaster area.

I may try my Game 1 season parking pass again. It can't hurt to try. 03-lmfao

If Irma goes north through the "spine" of Florida this weekend, the state capitol may be "out of pocket" for next week as well. Question - With the added time of moving the Saturday game to B'ham, why would they try to play a day earlier too?

Phil was right, my mistake. Birmingham will be a more fun place to play/stay than Jackson anyway 03-wink

Looks like UAB is hosting more than just the football teams, your athletic department and university should be commended. Thanks!
