RE: ODAF Donations
This is great, maybe we got some help with tax bill, with people getting money donated 2017. We usually see a bump in the reseating years, like the past few years. There are posters here who donate big, mid, small and none at all, it's all good. They all have a voice, just some more than others.

Actual attendance at football and basketball games would seem to refute your position.

This board is certainly the minority in terms of fan excitement/support. That is common because the people that post on message board tend to be critical. Fans that are negative about the program tend to run the message boards more often than fans that are happy.

And what would you cite as the reason for the donation growth?

Better seats for the whiteheads at the Saturday tea party? Who knows, but vision, lmao, comical at best.

Sure. 6k for basketball and ~10k during a 5 win football season isn't terrible either. And the donations are still coming despite the attendance trend.

6K? That some interesting rounding. It is also the lowest its been in years. And look at butts in seats. A lot of the seats that are sold are really throw-ins for corporate sponsors. Geico, for example, gets hundreds of tickets over the course of the football and basketball seasons because of their advertising deal. They rarely get used, and definitely don't reflect fan interest. Don't ignore butts in seats, it gives a much better picture of what real fan interest is, and is predictive of what future ticket sales will look like.

I would like to know as much as you on butts in seats numbers. Is there any way to get them? I rounded to 6k after our box scores of 6.9 and 6.3. The 6.9 figure seemed accurate because the student section looked 90% full.

Wasn't really sure where to complain about this. Anybody else get an email about signing up for a miniplan? There's BJ's face on it but no mention of his name anywhere. Just another small detail missed. Need to get people to start recognizing players with names to build the brand.

Yup. Considering I have three season tix, I’m the wrong one to sell a mini plan to. Perhaps they’re depending on me forwarding it to someone I may think is interested. Didn’t ask me to. I know who BJ is but whoever I would theoretically forward it to doesn’t. I agree. So much attention to detail is missed.

Are they allowed to use their names in ticket promotions?

RE: ODAF Donations
I wonder if this is why?

"The name or picture of a student-athlete with remaining eligibility may not appear on an institution's printed promotional item (e.g., poster, calendar) that includes a reproduction of a product with which a commercial entity is associated if the commercial entity's officially registered regular trademark or logo also appears on the item;"

I did a quick search. Names weren't on the football ticket promotions either. Wasn't on Miami, UNC, etc's either searching. I think there might be some rules at play. I did see where names were on pictures with schedules or generic imaging but anything that promoted the sale of stuff no names listed.

I'm not looking to unsubscribe. My point was that getting this info out to only the people in your pond is missing the mark. If that's the goal - purely to get the info to us to spread to our network, then convey that message. Otherwise, most of us are simply deleting the email moments after reading it.

RE: ODAF Donations
Harry has a new article about the changes to charitable contributions and how it will impact athletic programs;

Quote:Old Dominion raised a record $12 million for athletics in 2017, but athletic director Wood Selig said he doesn't think his school will take a big hit under the new law.

"The bulk of our donors give between $100 or $250," he said. "The average gift for our members is in neighborhood of $1,500."

At that level, he doesn't believe most ODU fans are contributing in order to get a tax break.

"I’d be shocked if this had a significant negative consequence for our athletic fundraising."
