Miami not playing is a joke. Miami has the resources to travel with the whole team to get them out of the hurricane path. They can also take the coaching staffs family up to arkansas as well and everyone hang out in Arkansas for a few days

They would have received $300,000 that would have covered many of the expenses. Hotels in Jonesboro were offering lodging and meals were offered as well.

In Jonesboro Saturday (or Friday) or not in Jonesboro, the storm is going to do what the storm is going to do, which right now can be anything from utter devastation in Miami to light damage depending on the actual track.

Actually, Miami currently has some budget issues with sports. They are not at a G5 level but the are not as rich as you think.

Well, to take great pictures & videos though. I'm sure many will want to sell them to the Weather Channel. Plus, pretty adventurous!

And according to weather reports, it's going down to Category 4 by the time it his Florida, possibly 3! Sheesh, what are people worried about!

UAB's AD finally did something right and made this happen. FIU will move into UAB's new practice facility (UAB is on the road), game is 6 pm Friday with free admission and parking. I plan to be there.

You beat us to it. We called and offered after Miami bailed.

Are those pictures taken in Arkansas? You know, the location where the game is going to be?

The "risk" is.... what exactly? That they won't be able to get back to Miami? So instead they're going to STAY in Miami during that monster storm. Brilliant move, Einstein. Instead of getting their players out of harm's way on the school's dime, they stranded them in Florida (if they're too poor to evacuate, well, tough luck for them).

USF @ UConn moved from 12 noon to 10:30 AM to allow USF more travel time back to Florida before Irma arrives.

I still don't see the logic in that, as the weather will be pretty nasty in Tampa for an extended period of time, even if the eyewall never actually makes landfall on the Rast Coast of Florida.

Timing on this pretty good for games to not get cancelled. 1 day later and yeah huge issues.

If that's the situation, I expect more cancels and moves. Fans far away from danger may be frustrated, but no decision maker will ever get fired for erring on side of caution and moving or canceling a game. But if he counts on a hurricane arriving one day later and it arrives one day sooner and there is a massive mess or worse, people get injured because game wasn't canceled, his head will roll immediately plus be pilloried in the media, etc.

This is a huge problem in America today. Decision makers SHOULD get fired for "erring on the side of caution" when the risk is practically non-existent. They waste a huge amount of time and money and oftentimes they actually put more people in danger. Case in point: Miami's decision to cancel their game at Arkansas State.

Players board an airplane. Fly 1000 miles to Memphis. Spend the night. Play a game. Add a night in Memphis or Jonesboro.
Hurricane does or doesn't make landfall on Sunday. Miami assesses the situation and makes a decision about what to do next, but in the meantime they are 1000 miles away from danger.

Not catching your logic.

The logic is, the players families homes are about to be destroyed in another potential Hurricane Andrew. And we are worried about a football game? Priorities.........

So I guess we should just cancel football altogether this weekend because you know the players from Florida that playing for non-Florida schools are worried about their families too!

FAU plays at Wisconsin
Florida hosts Northern Colorado
Miami plays at Arkansas St

Given the choice of staying in the direct path of the hurricane or going to Wisconsin for the duration, I'm sure most are choosing to head north.

And if they get delayed a couple days, there's a lot worse places to stay than Madison.

I know that Arkansas State is getting it rough. It's not fair. With that said, what Miami might go through is far worse. They might have 300 million in campus damage depending on if/how it hits them.

Football is so beyond secondary it's not even funny.

Charleston Southern-South Carolina State is postponed; both athletic departments say they'll try to reschedule for later in the season.

The Presbyterian-Citadel game is now at Presby, instead of El Cid.

Yes, the FL governor has closed all state campuses until Tuesday, so all campus events are canceled, including athletics.
