Hurricane Irma
...is one big, bad, deadly b_tch. This storm is unreal in size and symmetry and is now a Cat 5. It's expected to possibly hit Florida on Saturday. After Harvey's landfall, this one could be even more catastrophic. Most of the computer models have Irma tracking north through Florida and coming over North Carolina. We could end up with a ton of rain and storms. I'm definitely staying tuned in. And...Tropical Storm Jose is gaining strength and is tracking a few days behind Irma.

You know what I told my wife that this one and Harvey look like the movie The Day After Tomorrow from the picks from NASA.

Harvey was not that big or bad of a hurricane. It got stuck against a front and couldn't move so it just kept drawing in moisture to the same location.

I think he's referring to surge in how it wasn't necessarily a true behemoth...wind speeds were high, but the biggest issue with Harvey was that is did not move through land very far, remained against a front to continue dumping on a localized area, and came back around. Most hurricanes will dissipate within a day of hitting land, Harvey was able to maintain it's Cat. 1 status for 4 days due to the front it was up against and going back into the Gulf.

This one, Irna, on the other hand is a friggin dreadnaught. It was registering on seismographs in continental US and Cuba late yesterday, meaning the surge and sheer volume of precipitation are so high it is affect the earth's crust enough to cause a reverberation measured hundreds of miles away.

Exactly Bcatman. The size and wind wasn't extraordinary. The stationary nature was the killer.

Irma, now that's a whole different animal. Yikes!
