That is AWESOME! We need more in our conference to step up to the plate and knock those bastages out.

RE: #1 football vs ranked teams
Alabama played 19 ranked teams in 2015, 2016 and one game of 2017? I guess two SEC championship games and four playoff games are what get it so high, but that's still so far ahead of the rest. What would really be interesting is to see how many of these "ranked" teams finished ranked.

By my count, four of Houston's six finished ranked (Memphis and Temple being the ones who got knocked out). Regardless, damned impressive for Houston.

Houston is helluva program and deserves respect don't get me wrong, but there is difference between upsetting a couple top 25 power 5 programs and beating a few AAC ranked teams VS Being playing in the SEC and playing top 10 p5 team every week amd crushing them like bama does

Bullsh!t. Do you know why their conference opponents are all ranked? Because of 3 little letters. And they are conveniently ranked preseason so that they can STAY ranked while they play their 1-aa team and the teams they have contracted to COME TO THEIR HOUSE ONLY, except when the the G-4 teams get really good... then they cancel the game and pay the buy-out. Trust me, we at Memphis know about this first hand (Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, a few others). I think there was a season several ago where during the regular season, it was either Alabammer or Auburn didn't even leave their state but 2 games. Something like that. Just going off of memory. Or was it a Texas team. Can't remember. Anyway, point is, they have UNDENIABLE built-in "institutional" advantages as to how they are perceived.

I agree that the ESPN Dicks rides the SEC but you can't deny that any of the power 5 teams on the that list having faced better and more talented ranked teams overall. there is a difference between A playing and beating a ranked USF type team and ranked Michigan type team.

Also keep in mind that P5 teams tend to get ranked for no good reason, example Maryland just got a win vs a ranked opponent.

Houston's 6 wins are as good as they can be for a AAC team (FSU, Oklahoma, Louisville, Navy, Memphis and Temple).

This is the same or similar for most SEC schools every season. They rarely have true OOC away games and, even more rare, go outside the SEC footprint. Here's this year's OOC SEC schedule (H = home, F = neutral or away within SEC footprint, A = neutral or away outside SEC footprint):

Alabama: F, H, H, H
Arkansas: F, H, H, H
Auburn: H, F, H, H
Florida: F, H, H, H
Georgia: H, A (Notre Dame), H, F
Kentucky: F, H, H, H
LSU: F, H, H, H
Mississippi: H, H, A (California), H
Mississippi St: H, F, H, H
Missouri: H, H, H, A (Connecticut)
South Carolina: F, H, H, H
Tennessee: F, H, H, H
Texas A&M: A (UCLA), H, H, H
Vanderbilt: F, H, H, H

H = 41 / 56 = 73%
F = 11 / 56 = 20%
A = 4 / 56 = 7%

The SEC has found a way to elevate their brand which is brilliant. Yes, it is a talented conference. However, they have the entire country willing to play at their home or a neutral site and to vote them into the top 25.

RE: #1 football vs ranked teams
In addition to the home field and travel advantages, the SEC conference scheduling and OOC blueprint is brilliant. Same process that propelled the SEC during the BCS era. Only 8 conference games and limit the OOC to one difficult game (sometimes on the road, but usually not). This way, nearly everyone in the conference is at least 3-1 in the OOC, and the losses are "good" losses. So when the conference plays each other, it's a collective group of teams with a 49-7 OOC record. That makes a HUGE difference with SOS, win-loss records, and rankings. Compare to the PAC, where they only have 3 OOC games and frequently play difficult opponents and road games - and some PAC schools never play the FCS cupcakes.

C = FCS cupcake (always at home)
E = relatively easy G5 (usually at home)
P = P5 opponent

Alabama = 1P, 2E, 1C (Florida St.)
Arkansas = 1P, 2E, 1C (TCU)
Auburn = 1P, 2E, 1C (Clemson)
Florida = 2P, 1E, 1C (Michigan and Florida St.)
Georgia = 2P, 1E, 1C (Notre Dame and Georgia Tech)
Kentucky = 1P, 2E, 1C (Louisville)
LSU = 2P, 1E, 1C (Syracuse and BYU - considered a "P" opponent for SEC scheduling)
MSU = 1P, 2E, 1C (BYU considered a "P" opponent for SEC scheduling)
Ole Miss = 1P, 2E, 1C (California)
South Carolina = 2P, 1E, 1C (NC State and Clemson)
Tennessee = 1P, 2E, 1C (Georgia Tech)
Texas A&M = 1P, 2E, 1C (UCLA)
Vanderbilt = 1P, 2E, 1C (Kansas St.)
