Get AAC basketball far beyond Big Pee basketball and I bet football benefits as well. Everybody will be happy. Trying to do it football first will never work. There isn't enough money for another SEC/B1G/P12/B12 conference, but there's plenty of room/money for AAC basketball to promote the conference brand, playing at the highest level for the highest prize... not meaningless, no-name, participation trophy-bowls.

You are basically correct. AAC schools have a much better chance of making national noise in basketball - advancing to the Sweet 16, the Elite 8, the Final 4, and winning the national title, then doing so in football.

Reaching the Final 4 is indeed a realistic goal for AAC schools, at least some of them (e.g., UConn, Cincy, Memphis, WSU). Some of these schools have actually done it, and more than once. Making the CFP, the football equivalent of the Final 4, is not a realistic goal for any of our football programs.

Houston has 16 national championships in golf
I will agree with the OP that the aac should be recognized as a major basketball conference, would be great if aac was known as major in baseball and football and basketball
6/10

The trolling is improving I'm just not sure if it's intentional.

Of course I knew the AAC played football, but I couldn't have told you which of the two conferences were better at it. All I knew was the MWC sucked at basketball and the AAC had several programs with great traditions.

My momma told me to play to my strengths; it's clear that from a national perspective, the AAC is UCONN, Cincy, WSU, Memphis and SMU with regards to basketball. In football, the AAC blends in with the "best of the rest" category. Now that I've gotten a better grip of college football at the sub-P5 level

What is this Basket ball you speak of.

Quote:Ratings for the College Football National Championship game are in. The 16.0 rating was a substantial increase over the semifinals played on New Year’s Eve. But, it was lower than last year’s game between Ohio State and Oregon (18.6 rating). It was lower than the NCAA Tournament Final between Duke and Wisconsin (17.1 rating).

As I said, college basketball is a lot bigger deal than some of you realize.

"Objection - relevance?"

You asserted that cbb "affords the AAC the opportunity to be on the front page of everything for 3-4 months." I responded by saying that was unlikely because the average sports fan only cares about cbb at tournament time, and provided evidence to support that assertion.

Your response:

1. You state that there are more cbb games. Undeniably true, but that doesn't change the incontestable fact that very few people are actually watching;
2. You state that a cfb championship game (on ESPN, btw) drew fewer viewers than an (CBS) cbb cg; while again undeniably true, that in no way addresses my assertion that the cbb regular season is largely ignored.

You caught me. I didn't have enough time (still don't) to give you a thorough response or get into a debate where you show me data that supports your claim, I show you data that supports my claim, you tell me my data doesn't apply, I tell you your basketball team sucks, you tell me to jump into a kiddie pool...

You're going to have to take my word for it. Wichita State from the Final Four run, through the undefeated season and historic matchup (loss) to a severely underseeded Kentucky, was on the front page of everywhere. We had coverage after the NCAA tournament, during the off-season, through the entire college basketball season until we were eliminated in the tournament. I wish somebody would have been keeping track of all the articles, interviews, and specials. Angry from Wheatshockers.com posted a ton of them, and I do mean a ton. I didn't even read them all. In total it must have numbered into the thousands over a 12 month period. Maybe this is how it feels to be a Kentucky fan, I don't know. All I can say is this: if you are a top 10 bball team making some noise, you are getting massive coverage way beyond the 2-3 weeks that you proposed. And program exposure goes well beyond a televised game. You have radio, print, electronic, video, Facebook/Twitter/message board chatter, etc. etc. We were absolutely everywhere, all the time, to the chagrin of our Valley friends.

So my original assertion remains, many of the football fans on this message board greatly underestimate how big of a deal college basketball is - especially when you're a media darling.

If Bball was so valuable, one would think the AAC would have had to pay something for a WSU team that is a perennial top25 program with tons of fan support.

If Bball was so valuable, UCONN would currently be a member of the B1G, ACC, or Big 12.

It's more complicated than that. We had nowhere to go. The AAC held all the cards and was already bleeding cash trying to support P6 football. We aren't complaining I assure you.
