If A&M fires Sumlin, you can bet that the Vols will chuck Butch Jones too so they can enter the Kelly sweepstakes as well. The performance last night almost certainly guarantees losses to UGA, UF and BAMA.

RE: Sumlin probably gone, who's next?
Back from drunken stupor from both the game and little brother's stag weekend.

I wish we were ballsy enough to fire Sumlin and go after Kelley but instead we'll do what we always do and let our Houston vs Dallas BMAs (Big Money Ags) pissing match determine the hire and the Dallas BMAs are chomping at the bit to show the Houston BMAs that it's their turn and "their" guy will be a winner....except they don't want chip Kelley or any other proven winner at the D1 level. Noooooo they want SMU's Chad Morris for some stupid reason (he "gets" us because he's an alumni!) so we'll probably be dumpster diving in the bargain bin for yet another Texas D3 coach who plays golf with the right folks.

UTs former coach Mackovich was prophetic when he said Aggie's best trait (loyalty) is their own worst enemy in running a successful FB program and he was absolutely right.

Our fans will keep showing up no matter how little the AD and coaches try and refuse to demand excellence for all the money we give them because that's not "being a good and loyal fan" so we hang on to bad coaches way too long and then will go out and hire any mediocre coach with some vague ties to the school over a great coach with no ties to the school.

FML this is gonna be a loooong season

Who's next?

Right now I'm watching Tennessee struggle to stop Georgia Tech's triple option. They're down by a score early in the 4th quarter.

If Butch Jones loses this one then he's on the fast track to the unemployment line.

Dan Mullen

BTW: Tennessee in 20T's on a failed 2pt conversion by Tech. Going into week #2 the SEC is 3-0 vs the ACC.

With potential show clause penalty, I think dan could only get an OC position if that doesn't affect post season eligibility

Are we talking about Dan Mullen or Hugh Freeze here? I'm confused.

I'm saying that the Aggies should hire Dan Mullen. He has overachieved at Miss St which is a dead end job so he would probably jump at the A&M offer if it were made. He does stellar work in developing QB's, an Aggie need. And he has done a helluva good job on recruiting to a school that is not a glamorous destination. He was obviously Urban's secret at Florida and as soon as he left their offense nosedived. And he is one of the few former OC turned Head Coach that stresses defense.

When analyzing the A&M situation he is perfectly suited to meet their needs. Add to that the fact that he is naturally low key and won't be likely to involve himself in matters extraneous to football which could disrupt the Universities political machinations within the state and I just don't see a downside.

But 10th is right that the Ag boards were talking about the SMU guy which would be a woefully stupid move. A&M will recruit the state of Texas just fine. What they need is somebody who is sharp in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi and has ties to Florida. Again that is Dan Mullen.

I honestly think Dan Mullen would be perfect. He's evaluated/recruited Alex Smith, Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, Dak Prescott, and now Fitzgerald. Strong track record and he's shown he can win with inferior resources in the SEC.

He probably would be and it's the sort of move our AD made when he brought BSUs coach to UW

Unfortunately he doesn't get to make the choice and the word is the Dallas BMAs have had Morris picked out since last year.

We just can't get out of our own way.

Kelly would challenge Saban yearly. That SMU coach had better be amazing

If A&M really wants to make headway. Then they should go after Petrino. College football beware. If that man ever ended up at a place where he had access to top talent.

Mullen would probably be a good fit although I don't see A&M looking that direction.

Wouldn't shock me though if Tennessee looked at Mullen. Of course, that's assuming Butch Jones doesn't get the job done and we probably won't know for several weeks how that's going to go.

Barring an epic collapse, I think Jones is safe this year. Plus, don't forget that Jones broke the streak against Florida last year. That is still big even if the season didn't end the way it should have.

Obviously everything is still on the table for TN, but there honestly is no game this year that I don't think we have at least a chance in, and that includes Alabama. Of course, we are the cardiac Vols and could crash and burn, but Indiana State, Southern Miss, and UMass get you four wins, and though KY is better, I still count KY and Vandy as expected wins. I could see anything from the Music City Bowl in a rebuilding year to a NY6 12-2 season.
