Issues in Mike Houston's Coaching
Anyone see an issue in Houston's coaching? MM had anemic offense/playcalling, Withers defense/attitude... I don't see any issues with Houston as of yet. What a great staff!

RE: Issues in Mike Houston's Coaching
The man sure seems to be a straight shooter. He treats people with respect. He seems to be able to anticipate problems, address questions, and react to concerns. He started at less pay than our previous HC and appeared to sacrifice his compensation in order to help land top notch assistants. But the man can't keep a "straight face". I knew I could come up with something.

His pep talks are starting to become legendary. He certainly seems like he has that "it" factor that gets all the troops on the same page. Very well prepared.

I got nuthin' on the issue side.

I started it to see what people think of him as a whole. He's a great coach and I can not identify any concerns, in regards to coaching, with him. Just seeing if anyone can point them out. It's rare to find a coach who doesn't have some issues in an area of coaching.

RE: Issues in Mike Houston's Coaching
Everybody loves a winner. If/when the Dukes lose some games there will be some commentary for sure. The only thing that irked me the other night was a Mickey Matthews-esque burnt timeout immediately after a change of possession. For whatever reason he kept Schor on the sideline untIl about 15 seconds left on the play clock. Schor rushed onto the field and had to call a timeout because he couldn't get the snap off after making his reads.

That is an inexcusable mental blunder of which we have seen far fewer times since Mickey got fired.

RE: Issues in Mike Houston's Coaching
The only thing I've questioned was his decision the leave Schor in for the complete game. The ECU score came with the second team D playing. I had mentioned before game was that one of our MAIN goals was to not lose anyone to injury. I thought Schor would have been pulled for Johnson for a series or two in the fourth quarter. But I'm sure Houston had a reason .... and probably the right one!

My biggest issue with Mike Houston is that he's not also coaching men's basketball.

Mike Houston should've locked the damn gates on his way out to ECU -- with HolyCityDuke on the inside.

Concerning that it was only 7 -0 at the half. Need to coach that up.

I have a whole bunch of other issues with Mr. Houston, but I'm okay with him staying on as long as he starts with the following:

1. Needs to stop allowing his pre-game speeches to be recorded. Instead he call allow them to record him describing the animal shapes of his pre-game poos.

2. Needs to start wearing T-shirts that say things like "Offer me a job and I'll shoot your dog" and "I'm not sure I'd like to move again, it took me 2 months to relocate all those bodies".

3. During games, any time a camera's on him he needs to be shown consulting the invisible friend that lives in his pants, about which play to call. Every so often he needs to argue with his friend, including, but not limited to, smacking him while screaming "Bad boy! You're such a naughty boy!"

4. Press conferences need to be held in his car as he hits up Alger's and Bourne's houses with drive-by eggings, and ding-dong-ditches King.

5. He should require all interview requests be written in Sanskrit on a maxipad, and be accompanied by $50,000 in Canadian nickels.

This is the exact reason I've been staying away from these boards. Was this comment just meant to stir the pot? I hope this is sarcasm!

He's winning so much so quickly we may have him for less time. That's the biggest issue I have.
