Of course, The win was very impressive by itself. I was even more impressed considering 3 starters were suspended in Hereford, Alls, and Kloosterman.

Of the other players who didn't play, I missed Landan Word. He started a few games for UVA last year but didn't play at all Saturday. Anyone have the scoop? Injured?

The depth Should be top notch sometime near mid season. The roster is a sweet mix of Coach Matthews', Coach Withers', and Coach Houston's recruits.

Cardon? Raven?

Wondered about Word as well. But we rotated pretty well with Hawkins, Little, Holloway and Maginley. Depth will get even better when Hereford returns.

As far as senior experience & leadership, a bit of credit goes to Withers playing so many young guys in 2014. In the 1st game against Maryland in '14, Bolden and Hawkins both started. Hyman, Schor, Miller, Greene, Jordan Brown, Stinnie, Robinson, Moreland, Kloosterman and Urquart all played in that game and during the season. When Kloo returns, that'll be 12 starters w/ a ton of experience. It's a nice luxury to have.

RE: Player status
I think there are 7 starters who were solely Mickey Matthews' recruits.
BDK can correct me if I'm wrong
Cardon Johnson
Kyre Hawkins
Raven Greene
Jordan Brown
Aaron Stinnie
Simeyon Robinson
Andrew Ankrah
That is a group of studs. Some of Withers' first recruiting class were holdovers from Matthews' commits but I can't remember who

Agreed with everything except I wouldnt necessarily consider Hereford a missing starter. For the 2 inside LB positions the 2 players with the most starts last year were Steele and Holloway.

And even after Hereford is back playing, with the depth at inside LB it will be hard enough for him to crack the 2 deep, much less starting.

I've got those 7 plus Urquhart. He was one of MM's 1st class of 2014 commits. Stayed committed to JMU after MM was fired and EW was hired. Here's what I've got:

Offense: Listed 13, since Johnson & Marshall are practically co starters at RB, and
once Alls comes back I assume he'll replace Stapleton in the starting lineup which would make it 9 EW recruits, 2 MM recruits, 2 MH recruits.
-Schor (rSr) (EW recruit)
-Cardon Johnson (rSr) (MM Recruit)
-Marshall (Jr, 2017 GT transfer) (MH recruit)
-Riley Stapleton (rSo) (EW recruit)/-Alls (rSr, 2016 Duke transfer) (MH recruit)
-Miller (Sr) (EW recruit) Recruited by JMU before MM fired, originally committed to RU, changed to JMU after Withers hired.
-Hyman (rSr, 2014 Kansas transfer (EW recruit)
-Stapleton (rSo) (EW recruit)
-Kloosterman (EW recruit)
-Stinnie (rSr, MM recruit)
-Other 4 starting OL (EW recruits)

Defense: 6 MM recruits, 3 MH recruits, 2 EW recruits.
-Urquhart (Sr) (MM recruit). One of MM's 1st class of 2014 commits. Stayed committed to JMU after MM fired and EW hired.
-Ankrah (rSr) (MM recruit)
-Robinson (rSr) (MM recruit)
-Darrious Carter (rJr, 2016 UVA transfer) (MH recruit)
-Hawkins (rSr) (MM recruit)
-Little (rSo, 2017 UMD transfer) (MH recruit)
-Maginley (So) (MH recruit)
-Robinson (Jr) (EW recruit)
-Moreland (rJr) (EW recruit). Didn't commit to JMU until after EW hired)
-Brown (rSr) (MM recruit)
-Green (rSr) (MM recruit)

Overall
11 EW recruits
8 MM recruits
5 MH recruits

Its ironic how EW's recruits have suck a big stamp on the offense but not much on defense, and MM recruits have a big stamp on defense but not much on offense.

The 2 deep appears to be a plurality of EW recruits you assume that the majority of the second year guys that were signed out of HS/non transfer (about 10) were EW recruits who stayed committed to JMU after EW left & Houston was hired.

Next year the last of the MM recruits will be gone and it might be about an even mix of EW and MH recruits..

amazing to think how many coaches these few classes have been through... the relative stability must be nice for them this year / next (and many more hoping we can keep MH)

Good catch. I must have wanted to associate Hyman with the good P5 program in the state of Kansas, not the horrendous one (14-70 over the last 6 seasons) lol. JMU did have K State transfers in 2011 and 2014. Veering a little off topic:
2011 Billy Cosh transfers to JMU from K State.
2014 Xavier Gates transfers to JMU from K State.
2014 Hyman transfers to JMU from Kansas.

3 transfers from the 2 P5 programs in Kansas in a 3 year period. A little unusual..
