Goddard
Did we burn his redshirt with his garbage time snaps? Not 100% on the rules. Interesting if so.

RE: Goddard
Goddard is the #2 QB on the roster, so he will probably see more playing time. Not likely to redshirt this year.

RE: Goddard
Yeah, I think playing him is going to happen at points throughout the season.

RE: Goddard
No way he's red shirting as the #2 QB. Was good to get him some snaps on Saturday and the staff needs him to get ready to be #1 if needed.

RE: Goddard
I'm not a huge fan of that UNLESS we have plans to use him in competitive situations this year (which is entirely possible).
Mussat could have come in and handed the ball off a few times. IMO the idea of garbage time experience being valuable is overrated.

Yes Peej had it right. Simply never give the backup a second of PT. Keep your best QB in the game regardless of score.

RE: Goddard
If Goddard is #2 on the depth charts, and he is, he needs to get actual playing experience so he will be ready when we need him. Glad he got in the game for a few snaps yesterday.

If Wassink gets hurt and he has to start, it won't be garbage time experience. And you don't want him taking his first snap in college football under that situation.

RE: Goddard
I wouldn't rule out Goddard getting time in competitive situations. I mean, he is Lester's recruit, and I always believe that coaches are going to give the guys they recruit a longer look. That doesn't mean I don't think Lester believes in Wassink, but it would not surprise me a bit of Wassink struggles against Idaho and the FCS team we play a little bit that Goddard gets some looks during competitive action. He is second on the depth chart for a reason.

RE: Goddard
I'm guessing the staffs play calls for Wassink's were highly scripted to keep it safe and instill confidence. The run game was so effective that he didn't have to risk throwing into tight coverage. When things changed late and he threw it downfield it hit Watson square on the chest (catch it with your hands) .
I think "The Quarterback Whisperer" did it exactly right, and as the competition lightens the playbook will allow for more risky throws.

It still is garbage time experience. It was a few handoffs with our 2s against their 2s with the game in hand. I don't think he's gonna draw on that much if he has to start later. What he will draw on is from learning the offense in practice.
Zach Terrell threw a TD on his first snap. Maryland just had a true frosh throw for 40 on his first snap against Texas due to injury.
Again, it may well be that Goddard is in Lester's plans to get some meaningful playing time, in which case I'm making a deal out of nothing. I don't think giving the ball to Davon Tucker a few times and running clock is especially meaningful.
Either way it's nitpicking admittedly, since the staff did a GREAT job yesterday.
