RE: Hurricane Irma
There's no good place in Florida now. The whole state is preparing for catastrophic disaster. The only question is exactly what path the storm will take.

How can we be playing a state college when it is closed?

Governor Scott said, “Today, I am directing the closure of all public schools, state colleges, state universities and state offices for their normal activities effective Friday through Monday, to ensure we have every space available for sheltering and staging. Floridians are facing a life-threatening storm in Hurricane Irma, and every family must prepare to evacuate. Our state’s public schools serve a vital role in our communities as shelters for displaced residents and staging areas for hurricane recovery efforts. Closing public schools, state colleges, state universities and state offices will provide local and state emergency officials the flexibility necessary to support shelter and emergency response efforts.”

At least they have an on-campus stadium. One of those campus buildings should be a shelter. I imagine a lot of people are staying there honestly.

If it's been closed by order of the Governor, how can their be any football being played there?

This is interesting. UCF isn't a public shelter.

Only on campus students can stay there during the storm.

RE: Hurricane Irma
i'd be shocked if they let the game continue. every resource including first responders are being directed throughout the state. can't have a public event without law enforcement and others who are needed.

i could be wrong but that's my .02 cents

First responders won't be in Orlando? A place that's going to get hit....

What part of Florida are you in? Are you safe?

Re the game, I get the strangeness of people evacuating while we fly in. And a public event could be a drain for the services it requires. But Orlando shelters aren't even opening up until Saturday night, and we'll be long gone by then. Orlando doesn't get hit until Sunday.

RE: Hurricane Irma
we are in Panama City Beach and we just now made the new forecast model cone. not overly worried about it but we have all the supplies we need for the time. if it changes course and heads towards us we are bugging out.

right now the resources are moving south. officers from this area are already headed down as of this afternoon. the state is trying to be as preemptive as they possible can be.

this thing is a beast and will cover the entire Florida Peninsula. it's not the rain they are worried about but the winds are howling off this storm when it hits plus the storm surge. it's going to do some big time damage unless it takes a crazy turn west or east of the state. they are talking waves of up to 35 to 40 foot high are possible as far as Daytona Beach.

But the wind and rain will start long before. This storm will destroy the entire state of Florida.

RE: Hurricane Irma
People are going to die and we are flying in to play FB with a team who will stay there and get hit by the hurricane, supposedly after we leave.

I could understand this better, if our Football team was being flown in to help prepare for the disaster.

I say we take anyone from their team with us when we go. I don't get why this game wasn't played out of the state of Florida.

Hard to believe we are playing a football game in Orlando 24 hours before the state gets walloped by the strongest hurricane in recorded history.

My daughter informs me that Charleston, SC is under an evacuation order and a planned bachorlette party will now shift to Nashville with my house the designated crash pad. My wife and I are bugging out to the Lakehouse. I suspect Uber will be visiting often.
