Aside from the huge "IF" the offense gets going, three major problems with your thinking:
1 -- Arkansas State isn't that bad
2 -- the game is at Nebraska
3 -- Rod Carey play-calling
How about Arkansas State isn't that good? ... may be frustrated in my Huskies but I'm not giving up on them.
Hey I'd be thrilled with a win at Nebraska, but like too many Huskie fans, your argument starts by putting down a program, like it was a fluke for Arkansas State to be that close.
Yes, NIU beat A-State 38-20 in the 2011 GoDaddy Bowl, but last year we had a run of eight straight bowl appearances ended. That loss to NIU was the first of four consecutive berths in the GoDaddy for A-State and their string of seven straight bowl appearances is still intact. They're 3-4 (.429) in bowls, we're 4-7 (.364).
Last year we started 0-4 and won five of the last eight to go 5-7; A-State started 0-4 (losses included Toledo and Auburn), but then won seven of the last eight before a bowl game victory over UCF (31-13) to finish 8-5.
In 2015, A-State lost to USC, Missouri, and Toledo as part of a 1-3 start and won the last eight of the regular-season before a New Orleans Bowl loss. Year before that, they played USC and Miami (FL).
Point is, the G5s need to stick up a little more for each other because the P5s almost always (99.3%) play at home and there are times when -- unlike the ESPN talking heads believe -- it's not just a case of Nebraska played poorly, it's because an A-State or NIU played well and hung tough.
