conference with the best/worst weekends so far
I'm going to go with The Big Ten for best--no one lost to a G5 and Michigan and Maryland hauled in nice wins OOC while Purdue and Rutgers were outclassed by ranked opponents they weren't expected to compete with.

Worst is harder. The Big 12 had big disappointments with Texas And Baylor. The ACC didn't fair particularly well either. The Sunbelt had a pretty rough week though--Coastal Carolina got its first win in FBS while the rest of the conference struggled in their body bag games.

No, with Alabama beating FSU, the SEC has been best.

Still some good games to be played - GTech vs Tennessee and VT vs WVU.

Minnesota didn't set the woods on fire. Iowa was just deeper than Wyoming.
Arkansas State out of the Sun Belt acquitted themselves quite well. A knocked down pass in the end zone with 2 seconds is all that distinguished the mighty Huskers from the Red Wolves.

What you can claim for the Big 10 is that your bottom strapped it on and played some ball. Illinois did pull it out over Ball St. Purdue played a danged good game against Louisville. Indiana put up a fight. And really Rutgers played well in their loss. Throw in Maryland humiliating the Horns and it should have been a very satisfying weekend for the B1G.

Michigan beat Florida. Michigan didn't look particularly good. Florida without 10 suspended players including the leading rusher and receiver simply was impotent offensively. The Wolverines clearly had the better team. It's just that I'm not sure that game gives us any indication of how good Michigan really is.

Penn State and Ohio State took care of business with Penn State looking the most complete. Michigan State was okay.

I don't think there was a clear winner established today. If A&M and Tennessee manage to win then the SEC might have the edge on the weekend. If they lose then clearly the Big 10 had the best first week.

The PAC had bright spots and some poor efforts. WMU gave USC all they could want.

The ACC? I'll comment on them later in the month.

And I'm sad. Everybody on planet earth knew we would go for 2 had we caught that last pass. I was really curious to see what 2 point play we would come up with.

RE: conference with the best/worst weekends so far
It was a typical opening weekend, such a spread of results that it is hard to think anyone defined themselves.

I do think ACC is on a positive trend but unlikely to be "the best". Outside of USC needing longer than expected to pull away and Oregon State still looking bad, the Pac-12 may have an argument for best top to bottom but I'll be surprised if they end up with the best team.

RE: conference with the best/worst weekends so far
Single best win: Alabama over FSU.
Single worst loss: Baylor to Liberty at home.

Overall I'd but the Big Ten in the lead, but the SEC could catch them since they have 2 games to play.
Honestly not much difference between the other 3 power conferences, IMO.
Pac-12: USC was not impressive, and Oregon State looks pretty bad. 1 game to play.
Big XII: Texas and Baylor both disappointed. 1 game to play.
ACC: UNC and NC State choked, but FSU has no shame. Pitt needed OT but at least won. 2 games to play.

With so many victories coming over easy opponents, we really won't know much until at least week 2 is done.

Yeah baby! This season will still be rough but if there are no blowouts at least there's progress. We could go 2-10 and still show a lot of improvement (last year really was that bad).

Hard to tell when its week 1 and the opponent has to travel cross-country.

Sun Belt stunk. And yes, we sure as heck didn't do anything to help matters. Hope we just win the SBC. Go Apps!

There were some analysts who felt that Georgia might have one of the better, if not the best, defense in the SEC this year. So I wouldn't get too down on the Sun Belt just yet. Arkansas State was danged close to humiliating Nebraska. We'll know a lot more about Georgia's D after their trip to South Bend.

The SEC picked up some nice wins so far too. The Alabama win was a particularly big feather in their cap. I am anxious to see what Tennessee and Texas A&M do in their games.

You're certainly right in that not every Big Ten team came out and looked like a complete and total package but then again all of the teams that should have won did. I also think the Terrapins deserve some credit for going on the road to a giant stadium and upsetting a ranked opponent.

Once we are a few more weeks in the season I think we will get a better overall feeling for the relative strengths of each conference.

Still trying to figure out how Illinois got by Ball State. BS outplayed them badly.
