ULM first downs 25 / Memphis 16
ULM total yards 425 / Memphis 415

I hear it was raining, but that is pretty ugly against a historically bad sunbelt team. UCF destroyed our bad c-usa team. SMU destroyed their FCS team. Tulsa played a legit big 12 team, so who knows about them. Navy looks good like always. I'm hoping Houston still is decent. No idea about them yet.

Nothing personal against Memphis. We shall see next week. Way early for the rankings. I'd like to see another week.

The yardage given up is concerning, to say the least.

The first down discrepancy means nothing. Instead of long drives with multiple first downs, Memphis had TD runs of 65 yds, 55 yds and 63 yds.

Not to mention a 99 yd kickoff return TD.

Much of the ULM yardage came after we were up 37-14 in the 4th quarter, and put in the third string. ULM scored 2 late TDs after that.

Also, we lost 3 starters and one nickel LB, all on D, to injury, and another defensive starter to a targeting call, who will sit out the first half against UCF.

We had less than 100 yards passing with a QB who routinely breaks records. It wasn't "raining," it was a monsoon, blowing sideways the whole game, with winds at 20 mph and gusting to 40. So we went to the ground game and rushed for 300+ yards.

As you said, we didn't rack up a lot of first downs, b/c we kept scoring on long runs (3 of 55+), plus a 99 yard KO return.

not 'rain'...sideways rain with 25-30 mph wind gusts...aka the remnants of a deadly hurricane...we were up 37-14 and went conservative to kill what was left of that miserable, wet game.

we'll see you boys 9/9

^this. I think we will always have a disparity on first downs under Norvell because he is big on hitting those big plays. It's a double edge sword for us. We have to see how we play in grind it out games like Temple last year.

Memphis is better than the score indicated in their game. It was pouring. I think it will be a good game and a real test next Saturday for both UCF and memphis as long as hurricane irma doesn't mess it up.

Got less than 100 passing yards (97) due to monsoon-like conditions...

but ULM got 300 passing yards in the same conditions tho...

Anyone who makes AAC top 5 must always soundly defeat it's opponent by a comfortable margin... I'm a big defense side of the ball type dude... That said, If your offense is slightly mediocre but your defense is top notch I say you belong in AAC big boy top 5 table.

1. USF
2. UCF
3. Houston *I'm leaving Houston here for now, a bad performance however could have us sniffing 6 - 8 spot.
4. Navy
5. Memphis
----------------------------------------
6. SMU
7. Temple
8. Cincinnati
9. Tulsa
10. Tulane

If you were going to add Witchta's basketball team to your rankings (playing football) would they go above or below ECU?

RE: RANK THE AAC: Week 1 (or 2 if you're USF)
Based upon what I've seen: Based upon what I think:
1. UCF 1. USF
2. Navy 2. Memphis - rain leaves lots of questions
3. SMU 3. Navy
4. USF 4. Houston
5. Memphis 5. UCF
6. Tulane 6. SMU
7. Houston - since they haven't played 7. Tulsa
8. Tulsa 8. Tulsa
9. Cincy 9. Cincy
10.Temple 10.Temple
11.UConn 11.UConn
12.ECU 12.ECU - where has this team gone?

Saturday coming, we'll have a much better idea about UCF & Memphis. UCF will play a real opponent & Memphis will hopefully have a dry field.

Hopefully Irma stays away from all land. Some of the tracks aren't looking that great for FL - especially central Florida.
