think a big takeaway for me is that I think in the ACC- I think I'd probably take Florida St out of the top position and put Clemson in there. I know Alabama's a really good team but I think the fact that the game will be in Clemson when they play is just huge for that. Florida St offensively just not doing much of anything vs Alabama.

Another one- I think the Big Ten may be the strongest conference from what I've seen. Ohio St looked pretty good eventually, but Penn St and Michigan in particular looked dominant.

What takeaways do folks have from week 1?

Gotta remember Clemson beat up on a bad Kent State football team. Not much to take away from that game.

I agree with your take on the B1G, out of all the conference's I think they won the week.

I would also say that the under belly of the ACC is pretty weak. N.C. State losing to South Carolina was a gut punch, it may not seem like much to the casual fan but state was expected to be one of those teams that was going to show the depth of the conference.

In the PAC, USC and UW were less than impressive and if USC doesn't figure it out they are going to get steamrolled by Stanford next week.

Thinking about the playoff I think the only conference that really hurt itself this weekend was the ACC, the rest I'll reserve judgment for a later date.

I'd say the Big 12 hurt themselves this week. Texas didn't look good against a Maryland team that isn't that good I think. But I think they're going to be really solid in the Big 12.

Alabama is the team to beat, but can be beaten. The B10 appears to be the strongest conference. The distance between the P5 and G5 is growing. The P12 will beat each other up and weaken the conference as a whole. The B12 is in more trouble than I thought. One conference will have two teams in the football final four. And Liberty shocked the heebee geebees out of me.

Growing gap between P5 and G5. Only 1 G5 beat a P5.

Could be a season ruining event.

It's a real shame.

I think it's improved coaching by the P5.

Of the top 50 coaching staffs in the country probably 48 of them are in the P5.

The better G5's like Northern Ill, Western Mich, Southern Miss ect. playing P5 tight but most are falling completely apart in their games.

No, it's not the coaching. It's the money that the P5 keeps making more of while the G5 keeps making less by comparison. Money pays for those 15 coaches in Alabama's booth and Ohio State's booth. They have more 1 on 1 time with players because they have twice a many coaches with which to do it. And that doesn't include their recruiting staff and scouts.

As for the weekend the jury is still out on the SEC. Should A&M and Tennessee win it will have been a phenomenal week. The lone loss would be Florida minus 2 key starters and 8 other players.

If the SEC loses the UCLA or Georgia Tech games then clearly the best week belonged to the Big 10.

Penn State looks to be the class of the Big 10, IMO. Wisconsin and Ohio State have the pieces but haven't gotten them placed yet. Nebraska and Illinois (both wins) looked the worst. Indiana and Rutgers (both losses) looked much improved as did Purdue (loss) and Maryland (big win).

The problem with the Big 10 last year is that they had 6 strong teams at the top, 2 in the middle and 2 more below that and 4 at the bottom. This year it will be much much more balanced. The bottom 4 will inflict a few losses on the middle and maybe one on somebody at the top.

As for the Big 12 should WVU put the wood to Va Tech then Oklahoma, OSU, T.C.U., and WVU will be the race that develops. If Va Tech beats W.V.U. then that will virtually assure the scuttling of the Big 12 for a playoff spot, especially if Ohio State lays a loss on the Sooners. Why? Because then if OSU has just 1 loss their SOS will be questioned.

USC looked like a fraud. Washington was no different than Wisconsin and Ohio State. They had a bad first half and sort of pulled away at the end. Stanford looks like the real deal and the jury is out on UCLA until tomorrow evening. Cal could sneak into that mix of PAC contenders and don't sleep on Mike Leach's Cougars. Colorado also looked solid.

Should Auburn find a way to upset Clemson then the ACC would be in serious jeopardy, but Clemson still looks pretty solid to me.

And one other thing. L.S.U. looked pretty complete to me. They'll give Bama a tussle.

Baylor isn't a Go5 school, so it doesn't really belong in a list of bad Go5 performances against FCS schools. Expand is to bad FBS performances against FCS schools, and it can be added.

At least they beat them soundly. Some teams struggle getting in sync early on. Lots of early upsets to vouch for that.

So, that's more like an anomaly. What were the matchups, what were the point spreads, etc...
