Volleyball Week 2
The Owls easily beat Wake Forest (picked to finish near the bottom of the ACC this year) and the coach was not happy with our performance.

Quote:The Owls (3-2) handed the Deacons (3-1) their first loss of the season with a solid defensive performance, limiting Wake Forest to a .031 hitting percentage. Rice barely trailed through most of the match and had advantages in kills (39-27), hitting percentage (.250-.031) and digs (42-27).

“I can’t say it was very pretty but we came through today,” Rice head coach Genny Volpe said. “You walk away feeling fortunate if you can win and not play to your potential. We are looking forward to cleaning up our side of the net tomorrow and I’m confident we will.”

I like to see both of those things.

Let's see how they do against Colorado. Colorado is a top 25 team. Will they be competitive?

Why do you say Top 25? They are not listed in the coaches poll:

They were picked to finish ninth in the PAC 12.

You are right. I was looking at an older poll. Rice looses 3 to 0. Same garbage like last year.

I'm not sure if garbage is a proper word. The volleyball team is tons more competitive than football, that's for sure. They lost some pretty good seniors and it seems to be a bit of a rebuilding year for them. We have a good senior setter but the majority of the team are freshmen and sophomores. I think they continue to recruit well, and it's possible we're competitive in CUSA - but I don't see us challenging Western Kentucky.

When was the last time we won a conference championship?

2009 but they have finished as runners-up several times since then (including last year at the conference tournament in 5 games to Western Kentucky). We beat Colorado and Western Kentucky last year when they were both top-25 teams. I don't believe we'll be at that level again this year but I could see them challenging for a conference title again next year.

RE: Volleyball Week 2
We have not won a conference championship for the last 6 years and you said probably will be seven years and you happy with the results? What a bunch of BS? Like said same old garbage as last year.
