This is what our band, cheerleaders and players did when we ran out onto the field last night before our season opener with Louisiana-Monroe. Ran with the UH flag, as well as the Texas state flag. In the middle of a monsoon left on top of Memphis by Hurricane Harvey. But nothing like what Houston and Texas experienced, of course.

I was proud of them. I also know our coach (Norvell) called Applewhite and asked him if there was anything any of them could do to help him, the team or the town. Don't know what came of it, but I know the call was made.

That was an awesome gesture. Better yet---its far from the only one. Good to see the divisiveness that has plagued the country of late set aside---at least for a while. Who knows, maybe it will remind us of who we really are as nation. When this country is united---we can kick some serious butt.

Mizzou carried out the Texas state flag this morning at their first home game as well.

Wow what an amazing gesture, it's great to see things like this.
It seems that all to often we are inundated with stories that divide our country, political, racial, etc.
It's refreshing to see this, I just wish it didn't take a natural disaster to get Americans to show some compassion for each other.

That was an awesome tribute to UH & Texas by Memphis' band!! Hope you guys (Houston & the metro area) will be able to recover from Hurricane Harvey soon, although I fear the time needed to recover will be similar to what New Orleans needed to recover from Hurricane Katrina. It's a very wonderful thing to see all of you guys pitching in together to help each other though.
