Secondary still looks a bit concerning. We were giving huge cushions again and allowing easy 5-10 yard receptions. I am hoping some of that is due to the extremely rainy conditions and players not wanting to slip and give up a huge pass play.

I wasn't thrilled by our performance, nor was I let down. We have a lot of work to do between now and Saturday. I think we expected a high powered passing offense, but got a gritty run offense because of the weather. Our O-Line did a fantastic job opening up running lanes. I think a pass block, which is more of a pop-up and hold type block is 10X harder in those conditions than your normal block. Biggest takeaway for me was the lack of discipline where the penalties are concerned.

On a team that beat the same team by 5 more points at home than last year... when they didn't beat a team with a winning record all season?! Or are you talking about UCLA, who hasn't even played a game yet?

My comment makes plenty of sense. It's real simple. If we play like that against UCF and UCLA, we'll get our a$$ kicked. I realize the weather conditions gave us fits, but we had way too many penalties and poor decisions. We still struggle to get after the QB and make stops on 3rd down. At the end our offense couldn't move the ball and our defense quit. Thankfully for 3 quarters we ran the ball like a champ. If not, we would have taken an L.
Well, there's a very good chance that we won't see non-stop rain w/ 30-40 mph gusts again this season. They do need to practice in the sprinkler system w/ Ferguson. Overall I was ok with how it ended. Those kids were miserable, and we lost 4(i believe) to injury and one to targeting...
I agree with all of this, but I am starting to wonder about recruiting, etc. on the defensive side of the ball if a few injuries can make you look like that against a bad Sun Belt team. We should have enough depth not to fall apart like we did. This team got destroyed by both A State and App State.

Lol. I try to stay chill in the offseason, but if we look like crap against a sorry team in basketball I may become more lively. Basketball and football are in different places right now though.

There are a lot of upsets and near upsets in the first game of the season. The weird thing was Ferguson not being able to throw at all. Hopefully, that is just a monsoon thing and we don't play in any more monsoons.

That is exactly why they were playing off. Under those conditions the best thing to do is keep everything in front of them.

That is exactly why they were playing off. Under those conditions the best thing to do is keep everything in front of them.
As for penalties, when they played back the tape on TeeVEE, we seemed to over-react to their frustration. They were doing borderline things that didn't get called but made us mad.
There was at least one penalty that should have been called when one of their guys went after Ferg. One obvious one was called.
Our SwampDoggy (or whatever his name is) did eff up, though, in that targeting call. He looks awesome, btw.
