Big South football would be a great place for them to start a program and if they can rally enough support they could have a future in the Sunbelt someday.

The money would be needed to endow scholarships and Title IX. Football is not cheap. They already have an NFL stadium and FCS stadium they can play in.

Yes. That means Ga Southern will always have at least one game in Atlanta every year. Georgia State will love the close rival game. Think USC vs UCLA.

Georgia State will host Kennesaw State in football in 2018

"The beginning of a rivalry may start when Georgia State hosts Kennesaw State in football on Aug. 30, 2018."
Drug test please.

We aren't spending $200M on facilities to be rivals with KSU

When UNF and KSU are in the SBC it means that 80% of the current members will not be.

Adding a football team in 2017 is like getting dial up AOL in 2006. College football may be dead in 20 years, especially non P5. Why waste the cash??

I could not find the whole list. This shows that Sun Belt Conference was looking at 15 football schools. But the article from another source showed 21 schools which 6 of them are basketball schools without football.

The candidates for football.
Appalachian State
Delaware
Georgia Southern
Idaho
Illinois State
Jacksonville State
James Madison
Lamar
Liberty
Missouri State
New Mexico State
Richmond
Sam Houston State
Towson
UT Chattanooga

I am trying to remember all of the basketball schools.

UNF
South Carolina-Upstate
VCU
Wichita State
College of Charleston
FGCU/Jacksonville/Texas A&M-Corpus Cristie?

The Sun Belt was looking for two eastern basketball schools to offset the Little Rock and UTA schools to balance the conference out. UNF, Little Rock and UTA would be added bonus if they added football in the future, and Sun Belt Conference would not be hurt much if another raid comes about. I do think there are still some interests in UNF, and with UNF still mentioning about their interests in adding football in the future? It is sending a message to the Sun Belt Conference.

UNF fits the geographical and enrollment footprint. It is within a 5 1/2 hour drive to Coastal, Ga Southern, Ga State, South Alabama and Troy. Plane fairs between Charlotte and Jacksonville be no problem for Appalachian State teams, students, and alumni. UNF fits nicely into the Sun Belt.

We add UNF what puts the Sun Belt to coordinate with Texas - Arlington to start programs simultaneously. Like UTA, UNF would not have any problem starting from scratch and going to FBS.

First year opponents

First thing I did when looking at the article was to check the posting date; I didn't waste any more time by reading the article since it is nearly 5 years old. Today, the Sun Belt is not looking to expand. If the SBC was looking, they are now in a position where they can afford to take their time and be selective. The Sun Belt is not going to expand to a school with a start-up football team.

The funniest part is UNF is saying ...sorry...nothing to see here. We can't do this.

FJ hears...

"Yes, the precious! Football is good! Must join SBC now!"

This was about 2013 when the emails were sent between Benson and the AD of Georgia Southern. Problem was that the Appalachian State paper who requested this left out schools that do not play football. Another paper that is not school run made the complete list.

There could still be talks between Benson and UNF. We will never know. Look how Wichita State flaunted the idea about adding football until they got an invite to the AAC. I am seeing the exact same thing here.

Only a fool would believe the Sun Belt is still talking to North Florida; that is, if talks ever started 5 years ago.

“It's actually inevitable. It's just a question is it in a few years or 10 or 15,” Delaney told First Coast News in the 2013.

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/sports/unf.../469419983

I suspect Delaney's mission was to delay the football addition to the university for as long as he can to help UF. He is a graduate of UF and a former mayor of Jacksonville. He also served a stint as the interim Chancellor of the State University System.

UNF would be a great addition to the Sun Belt.

East

Appalachian State
Coastal Carolina
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Kennesaw State
North Florida

West

Arkansas State
South Alabama
Louisiana Lafayette
Lousiana Monroe
Troy
Texas State

Then add West Florida and Missouri State

Why don't we revisit this when UNF actually adds a football team 15 or 20 years from now.
Agreed!!
