Apparently Poplar / 240 is no longer safe either. I would recommend that you come strapped.

Not many people think about Sheraton Four Points Memphis at Poplar and 240. Buddy of mine owns that.

Also, they remodeled a few years ago if you aren't looking for anything fancy, the LaQuinta next to St Francis is not bad at all.
