Landfall officially in Marco Island, FL as a cat 3. It's now destroying Naples which is one of the wealthiest cities in the country. Lots of celebrities with multi-million dollar homes there. I think Trump used to have a home there but I'm not sure if he still does. I didn't realize he also had a $13 million mansion in St. Maartin which was on the market (but I'm assuming is now destroyed?).

Mayor of Cincy inherited a house in Naples, he sold for it 10 Million.

Some idiots decided to rob the Academy Sports near the Mall at Millenia in Orlando, and apparently there is a standoff:

I saw some stories on looting in Fort Lauderdale too. We had some looting in Houston - don't get me wrong - but in general I think Houston (and Texas) has handled itself with more class thus far than Florida. It does appear that Florida in general will be in much better shape than Texas. Honestly it could have been so much worse. The good news is that I don't think we're talking about a 20-50 billion dollar storm from Irma. The bad news is if another storm like this comes to Florida, less people are likely to evacuate. And maybe next time, Cuba doesn't help us out by taking the bite out of a storm like Irma.

Jose is going to do a circle south of Bermuda and may end up coming back to Florida next week. Haven't seen any forecasts past Monday, but it does head back in Florida's general direction starting Friday.

Some good pictures and video from the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. Article says Key West residents said things weren't as bad as they expected. I guess Miami wasn't as bad as expected. Flooding in Miami and Miami Beach doesn't sound any worse than what they had back the first week of August when I was there and they got some heavy rains from the tropical storm. But that flooding was very short lived, only 3-4 hours.

Getting some good gusts in Atlanta but not heavy rain yet. Heard about 3 transformers explode so far today. A 75 ft tree 10 ft from our house fell, but fortunately fell parallel. Our neighbors lost the top third of another big tree. Its blocking their driveway. Heard a crash louder than either of those somewhere in the back, but naturally haven't gone back to investigate. There are other limbs and trees that might come down. Fair amount of power outages in the general area.

Steady heavy winds and moderate rain here right now.

Had a tree on my neighbor's property come down on the corner of the house and crush my covered back porch. Can't tell all of the damage at this point but I do know it destroyed a table and have some shingles knocked loose. No structural damage to the house that I can see, but I haven't done a detailed inspection.

Stay safe! Hopefully you have a good neighbor because, technically, that damage is probably your responsibility.

Yeah it is.

He's going to hire the tree service and pay half of our deductible. I would cut it but it's partially on the house. I got skills....but that's out of my league.

Unfortunately, you'll more than likely still have higher premiums going forward due to filing a claim. At least your neighbor is doing something to help out. Although I may have pushed for him/her paying the full deductible.

RE: Irma could become hurricane by Friday...
An alt-left reporter just asked Huckabee-Sanders if the recent hurricanes have changed President Trump's opinion on global warming, err.. climate change.

Why when it's an event that flies in the face of climate change, that's just written off as "weather", but when a couple hurricanes hit back to back (even though major hurricanes are becoming less and less frequent), that's confirmation for man-made climate change?

These reporters are the types of suckers that will walk by a roulette table and see that it's hit black the past 5 times, and either bet everything on red because "it's due" or black because "it's hot". They need to dump everything they *learned* while earning their bachelor of art degrees, and read this book.

We were fortunate-so far. Power flickered a dozen times or so, but didn't stay out. Very dark to the east in Atlanta last night. Power seems to be out starting with our neighbor continuing down in that direction. That big tree took out their power line. We lost a big one in the back, but it fell away from the house. Mainly lots of debris in the yard.

Schools will be closed in my Atlanta area district for the 4th day tomorrow with over 30 schools still without power. Georgia Power is estimating 95% of homes will have power restored--by Sunday night. Still streets closed and power lines down near me. Lots of stop lights out.

The Virgin Islands got it bad. This story is on St. John's.

8 deaths (so far) in a Florida nursing home that is without power. Kind of reminds me of Ike (when a bus evacuating folks from a nursing home caught fire). Florida's power grid seems as bad as Texas' grid.
