G5 Golden Ticket
Im talking about the one G5 team that goes to a New Years Six Bowl. When do we get someone from C-USA in? Last year it was Western Michigan, this year it looks like South Florida.
To make C-USA legitimate we need someone to run the table and get to that coveted spot. Unfortunately with ODU's tough scheduling over the next several years I dont see them going undefeated, but on the flip side you have to beat several decent/good P5 teams just to boost your resume because it is the highest ranked G5 team that gets invited. For now I will settle on just a regular bowl game for ODU but you never know.

RE: G5 Golden Ticket
I agree with one minor correction:
" it is the highest ranked G5 team that gets invited"
It is the highest ranked G5 conference champion that gets invited. That is an important distinction and has played a major roll in the access bowl in the last year or two. All it takes is for an undefeated or one loss USF, Boise, etc to fall in the championship game and it opens the door for someone else. To be the clear favorite, you need to run the table with a quality schedule. To be in contention you just need to win the conference. To have a realistic shot you either need to be undefeated or one loss to a quality team. Otherwise you need some Chaos with the other conference champions.
We need to get to a point where our conference champion is ranked every year. Need to win OOC for that to happen. Lets get it started this week.

Not so fast, my friend. Colorado State might have something to say about that. They looked a helluva lot better against a better OSU team than USF did against a horrible SJSU team.
As for a team from CUSA making the AB, I think that things would have to fall just right for us to send a team. I don't think any of LaTech, WKU, or MT are starting high enough to make that much progress UNLESS they go undefeated OOC and in the season. I don't think this is our year, but I hope I'm wrong.

Colo State looked legit to me. They looked like they will carve a new hole in USF if pitted against them.

RE: G5 Golden Ticket
I remember in 2014 (I think) when ECU beat UNC 70-41 and everyone was penciling them in for the Access Bowl.
In 2015 people were ready to put Boise in after they beat Washington the first week.
And last year Houston beat Oklahoma and people thought there might not even be an AQ G5 team because Houston would be in the playoff.
People read too much into Power 5 wins way too early. I've even seen it happen in the FCS too where an FCS team will beat a Power 5 team and fail to make the playoffs.
I think this is going to be a fairly wide-open Access Bowl race. I don't think any conference is really eliminated yet.

Bye the way, USF SOS rank is 98. That will count very hard against them.

I think the point might of been not that the P5 wins catapult you into that lead position, but that at the end of the season, you need those P5 wins to help state your case. No matter what, they help. But yeah, teams can come out the gate strong and stumble midway for sure.

How is that possible with them in a P6 conference?

I agree with both of y'all. CSU looked great, but they have to play Alabama this year. I could see someone like WKU, Tech, or MT making it this years. They could all go undefeated in their non-conference schedules.

RE: G5 Golden Ticket
If we beat up on Vandy, Minnesota, and Cuse, avoid a disaster against BGSU, and run the table in CUSA... it's possible.

If MT comes out and takes care of business in their first 3 games, all against winnable P5 teams, I think they will crack the top 25. Then they just need to win out. They have a shot.

I agree. Beating Vandy in itself wouldn't be that much of a shocker but if we can win out against Vandy, Minnesota, and Syracuse, people will probably pay attention.

RE: G5 Golden Ticket
One loss will cost USF any trip to to the Golden Ticket, schedule strength is horrendous. It is much like the first year with Marshall, CFP will not give them much respect with that schedule.
