Any guess which years were bad for Troy?

Without even knowing if this supports my assertion or not,Conf rankings are not as reliable versus overall record and sucess ...as state earlier as you narrow the focus the less reliable they are.

If you have a conf and every team falls within 90 to 105 nationally not a lot of separation. Also again its only a reliable indicator not a sure determiner, thick heads cant wrap their heads around that simple concept. It is just the most reliable indicator vs anything else, basic math proves that. Now if you look at the SEC you have AL all the waayyyyy down to Vandy which can be 50+ spots difference nationally and well it is crystal clear where AL is going to finish typically verus Vanderbilt.

Looking at the conference finishes though it is somewhat reliable as ULM, GaSt, NMSU, Idaho have lived at the bottom of the rankings and standings most years.

Also all players "develop" but Edwards needed less than most which is the point. He would have been good at any I-AA school. Again its one player out of tens of thousands does not mean much either way.

Peterson was the Gatorade state HS player of the year in FL his SR season. He fell to FCS because of his speech impediment and the fact that he really was unable to talk on the phone at the time and it scared the big boys off. He was definitely the exception to the rule talent wise for FCS.

Folks forget Peterson redshirted his first year in Statesboro too.

What I'm getting at is that when Troy's recruiting rankings were top notch, they were winning SBC titles (five in a row). Yes, coaching matters, and no recruiting rankings won't line up in the exact order as conference standings. But the rankings are a moderately accurate barometer for success.
