This is always a risk with a coaching change, especially hiring someone without extensive head coaching experience.

Of course change was a necessity this time around. In hearing CLF though, I really get a good feeling about his authenticity and energy. I feel he has the right stuff to be successful here. But we'll all know more in three short months. Stay tuned.

I'll actually treat this seriously for a second:

First, let's play the game before we go looking for a catastrophe, eh?
Second, if we lose this game, realize that Fickell has at least one "honeymoon" year, so if it happens, he's not going anywhere.
Third, if Fickell is as bad and as inept as you hypothesize, then we're screwed anyway but I think the worst of the damage has already been done to Bearcat FB. All an inept Fickell tenure would do is to finish off the fate Bearcat FB that the ********** years started...permanent consignment to the "g" division with all that entails.

So...relax.

Let's think about things rationally. The staff is not just CLF, look at the quality he hired. Denrock, Phillips, Guidugli, etc.

Those are far above what that former coach had.

It's never a guarantee, but I will be shocked if CLF isn't successful here. And I surely wouldn't lose any sleep over the Austin Peay game.

I have no idea whether this will be a successful staff or not, as I don't think you can determine that from talking points in interviews, but I have a very hard time believing we will lose to Austin Peay regardless of who is coaching.

I thought the couple of people predicting a competitive game were nuts, but it looks like they were dead on. If we can't run on an FCS bottom-feeder, it's going to be a very long year.
