You'd think that wouldn't you . . . .

We were the worst FBS program in the country last year, and we've got a pretty good chance of replicating that feat.

Nowhere to go but up, sure .. . but when?

Starting Saturday.

We may not be good this year, but we won't be the worst team in the country.

Their conference schedule is hands down the easiest of anyone, they've got the best defensive unit in the league and IMO one of the best offensive units. GS and @Idaho are the biggest hurdles to running the table meaning no one can probably afford more than a single loss to get a conference championship.)

2. Troy (Best offensive skill position players in the league, most balanced and versatile offense and solid defense.)

3. Ark State (I give App and Troy the edge because Ark State is just not as good running the ball and IMO aren't quite as good defensively as App or Troy).

4. Georgia Southern (Young, talented team with coaching question marks, though there's a lot of question marks as far as coaching. I fully expect when conference play starts the offense will really be going.)

5. South Alabama (Young team, a work in progress, but they've recruited well and if they can figure out something with their running game they might be able to finish in the top 3.)

6. Coastal (Has the talent to go up against at least a few teams in the league, Jamey Chadwell and Mickey Matthews really are a formidable coaching pair, I don't think they'll win any fewer than 3 conference games).

7. Idaho (Have they had back-to-back winning seasons? Not often. I want to see them go out on a high note, but think their OL and defensive losses will hurt them and the improvement of the league across the board will make it hard to get to a bowl game).

8. UL (Too many question marks on offense, not enough answers. May have a problem with distractions, too.)

9. ULM (I was never that impressed with Matt Viator at McNeese, still don't think he's their guy. They'll improve but I think this is a 4-8 or 5-7 team).

10. Texas State (Still one year away, but IMO going in the right direction)

11. Georgia State (Like Texas State, a team trying to clean up a mess on the roster that seems to be trending upward. They'll be one of the top defenses statistically this year, but honestly, their offensive roster is pathetic.)

12. New Mexico State (Been living in the conference basement, don't see how they will get out this year.)

I think you will be proven wrong about Viator. The guy is a hell of a coach and a hell of a recruiter. The question is not if he will turn us around, but when.
Viator is good, no doubt about it. I watched his teams at McNeese consistently perform at a high level. ULM will improve tremendously under him, but it'll take another season before it really shows. He just didn't inherit much roster depth.
