They are taking in the hillside and building training facilities and adding luxury seats. The renovation however will take the capacity from 71,000 to 65,000. Since the median attendance for the SEC is 86,000 and the average attendance is 77,500 it won't exactly improve their standing. But if they can attract more high dollar donors it may help them.
ECU is about to be around 55000 seats. We will be catching up to some SEC teams soon.
Yet you only averaged 44k over the last 4 seasons and the AAC appears to be the tallest midget among the G5 money wise. Why would you expand from 50k to 55k?
We average 44k with bad years. Last year we had 52000+ for the NC State game. We are adding a bunch more luxury seating and increasing capacity for our marquee games since those are our highest ticket revenue games.
I think you're nuts to expand...you had 43k for VT which is one of those relatively close by traveling fan bases that you expect will fill 55k?
Sadly...the smart money is on reducing capacity while increasing seat spacing and amenities. Less seats means STHers will feel their tickets are more valuable.
I fully expect the Carrier Dome to decrease to 40-44k in the renovation.

We are on a losing streak attendance is going to be down. Historically we are 50000+ for P5 home games.

I understand the build it they will come but football attendance has been slipping... Millennials are not into football as much as previous generations. Our student attendance is horrendous at Cuse...I know ECU's is better but I have a hard time seeing long term favorable trends.

Right however our expansion is for more luxury seating which is needed. Fans want better experience in the stands and we are providing that. Also our school is growing every year. This freshman class is the largest in history. Our school is growing as our state grows. In return we need a larger stadium. Unlike Syracuse which is a large private school whose enrollment stays around the same every year, ECU is getting larger and larger.
We went from 42K to 55K at Louisville with a losing coach and no guarantee of an invite out of the sinking Big East. Now we are expanding to 65K while closing in the lower bowl. We will still have a waiting list after the 10K are added with the ability to go to 80K.
The time to expand is before you have demand. Build and they will come.

Missouri is going through tough times now, for more than one reason. A short-term issue. Penn State survived and look at them now. Other student issues are being addressed. Mizzou will be fine long-term.
