FS1 beat ESPN on Saturday for top televised cable game. ABC dominated like expected on the broadcast end.

maybe on Saturday- but then games on Thursday and Monday beat the doors off of FS1's game.

ABC beat Fox head to head on Sunday night. 4.645 million to 3.190 million

The Alabama/Florida St game would have finished #2 last year. Only Michigan/Ohio St last year got more viewers than that game did.

Sunday night was still a net win for FOX.

Last year's Notre Dame @ Texas game aired against Sunday reruns on FOX and NASCAR on NBC and it crushed. 10.46M viewers on TV and about another 500K streaming. Getting 3.1M viewers away from ABC is a good number, even with the Houston area as a mess post-Harvey. Heck, NBC moved the Southern 500 to NBCSN

ABC got almost 5 million viewers for a game with West Virginia and Virginia Tech. That's a HUGE number for those teams.

You would think a game with Texas A&M and UCLA would get a lot better rating than West Virginia and Virginia Tech.

And ABC is poised to have a great rating on Saturday with Ohio St/Oklahoma.

ABC/ESPN very happy you would think with this weekend. 5 games over 4.5 million viewers.

FS1's average for their 4 games this weekend was only 959k. ESPN's average for their 7 games was 2.67 million, and all 7 games over a million. ESPNU actually beat 2 of FS1's games....

One thing overlooked here is that the 2.046M viewers for the Maryland-Texas game was FS1's third highest viewership for college football ever. And, I wouldn't have called this a marquee game.

Only 2015 opening Thursday night Michigan-Utah game (2.86M viewers-Harbaugh's first game at UM) and 2016 Texas-Oklahoma rivalry game (2.7M viewers) saw higher viewership.

I think the B1G inventory will help FS1 increase its viewership nicely over the next 5 years.

Well Monday was the only game on so of course they had great numbers.

the question though is how many Big Ten marquee games will actually wind up on FS1. I mean next 2 weeks- will Ohio @ Purdue or Northern Illinois @ Nebraska really move the needle for FS1? I sure don't think so. Big Ten I'm sure put in safeguards to ensure it's top games are on Big Fox and not on FS1.

Like Maryland @ Texas? Oh wait. Im sure Fox had safe guards in place to make sure it's sports channel had more than just scrub games.

Except for the fact that you have to ask the question who had the leverage in the negotiations. The Big Ten sure as hell had the leverage over Fox.

and look at what we know so far...

On FS1-
Washington @ Rutgers
Ohio @ Purdue
Northern Illinois @ Nebraska
Nebraska @ Illinois
Iowa @ Nebraska
1 even so-so game.
on Fox-
Louisville vs Purdue
Army @ Ohio St
Notre Dame @ Michigan St
Penn St @ Ohio St
Ohio St @ Michigan

pretty huge difference there. Fox may have wanted to have the games for FS1, but the Big Ten had all the leverage.

Iowa v. Nebraska was broadcast on ABC (with great viewership) in 2016 and 2015. I'm sure there will be other good B1G games that will help FS1 improve its reach and reputation.

It's VERY possible that Iowa/Nebraska is the best game on FS1.

The problem with your statement is that we already know of the 13 weeks Fox has gotten their #1 choice in like 5 of those weeks. ESPN/ABC has gotten their #1 choice in only 1 of those weeks. So of the other 7 weeks ESPN gets #1 choice in 5 of those weeks- meaning #2 choice would be going to FS1 at best. In the 2 weeks that Fox chooses #1, I'd be pretty sure that there's a stipulation that requires the #1 choice to be televised on network TV(regardless of network choosing). So that won't help FS1 out much either.

I stand by my statement that there will be plenty of good B1G games that will help FS1 improve its reach and reputation. Don't understand how that statement has a problem or why it is offensive.

Games like Purdue-Michigan and Northwestern-Iowa and Maryland-Wisconsin could easily see FS1 broadcast...and they will help FS1 to grow. FS1 isn't going to seriously challenge ESPN for the top spot right now, but FS1 inventory is improving.

Blowout game until 4th quarter vs Close game all the way through. A&M blowing out UCLA in the first half turned away most watchers.

Week 3 is just a crap week for Big Ten football.

ESPN2 is showing North Texas/Iowa. Northern Illinois/Nebraska or Air Force/Michigan was the choice for FS1 game. Either one isn't that exciting or ratings buster.

I would say the entity that was handing the money to the other entity had the leverage. Thats why they ended up with first pick of weeks and the CCG. I doubt the B1G said they coulnd't have marquee games on FS1. You just like to bash Fox for some weird reason.

You are absolutely delusional. Fox needed the Big Ten WAY more than the Big Ten needed Fox.

And put it this way. Look at the games that Big Fox has taken so far. Notre Dame/Michigan St, Penn St/Ohio St, and Ohio St/Michigan. That's Fox's 3 top week picks. Those are the top 3 games that Fox will get overall from the Big Ten.

I think it's really safe to say that part of the contracts with ESPN and Fox was that the weeks that you chose a Big Ten game #1, that game had to be on network TV.

I just think there is an awful lot of wishcasting with Fox.

Yeah, that week was the clear #13 week and was last choice of weeks.

ABC/ESPN= same company. FOX & NBC tried, but ABC/ESPN carried the day. Still, I'm glad FOX tried. 04-cheers
