RE: Less than 30 hours now
We walked around the Harbor today and waitresses from the restaurants were wearing Rice and Stanford shirts.

RE: Less than 30 hours now
I've been going into these games against premium teams with quite a bit of dread, probably since 1994. The Goldsmith years have been, by far, the gold standard for Rice since I've been alive. We just aren't competitive against good teams anymore (and I would say being within 7 points in the fourth quarter is being competitive). I'll always hope for the best, but 11 years now with this guy is really depressing.

We haven't been competitive against any team ranked inside the Top 75 under Bailiff (with only several notable exceptions during his 10 year tenure).

We are 0-0 and our guys have been working hard this off-season to get better. Can we quit the complaining until Stanford actually scores?

I was hoping to find somebody who would be a bit upbeat and positive. I sure miss Rick.

+1. Don't expect us to win but cautiously optimistic I'll see something that looks like a team that could go bowling.

Agree.
I'm choosing to try to enjoy this season. Maybe take inspiration from Rick and try to emphasize the positive.
It's my team and I'm looking forward to see them on a national stage.

The cute videos on Facebook shows a team more excited to simply be there playing with animals and eating new food than a team preparing to do something special on the football field this year.

At least we were clear this trip was simply about experiences for the kids and not building a football program or athletics department so I don't know why we'd expect anything different.

You want daily videos of them practicing and that's it? The videos clearly show them practicing and lifting like a normal game week. But of course it's about the experience don't be foolish! Stanford is a top 25 team and doing the same thing.

I appreciate you're blind optimism. But yes, I like videos of football teams playing football. FWIW, I don't believe any other top team in the country is kicking soccer balls on their practice field or sending players to be on tv throwing up food they haven't had before...much less posting videos to Facebook clearly proud of the fact they're doing it. In fact, most videos other schools are posting are about their insanely intense, high speed, high intensity practices, and 100% focus on nothing other than winning week 1. I won't apologize for wanting to win over all this other none sense. But hey who cares what I think.

It's just the two in Australia. I agree, the Sooners and Buckeyes are probably not kicking soccer balls or eating vegemite.

I also don't see where you get the "blind optimism" idea. I don't think anybody here is clamoring to put the rent money on Rice straight up.

I'll retract that part for you. I'll hold to my other sentiments even though I'll simply get argued with no matter what I say on this board. I thought we could keep this game close til I saw those videos of a guy thinking it's funny that he threw up in bushes and coach Bailiffs pathetic "hey so what were 30 point underdog speech." Have some pride. Now Im simply glad Shaw isn't one of those that'll win by 50 just cuz he can. I guess that's the experience we're looking to give our kids.

I'll go with 8 points or less inside the 4th quarter, but Stanford pulls away to take it 37-15.
Stanford 3 7 13 14 - 37
Rice 3 0 5 7 - 15

And then on to win CUSA. 8-6 overall.0
