I bet your AD and other top people in the AD dept. made the trip to Miami and Boca. Probably the only road trip they made all year. Well unless Middle played in NY or Bahamas or some other major attraction city. It's that way for Western and I guess most of our schools.
Attendance numbers for most of us (even some of those at the top) need to improve but lets be honest...
they are not going to. Not even with winning. Western will top out in the mid 5k range to lower 6k even with a great season or two.
It's the world of college sports we live in today

In the 80s when Marshall was one of the top 3 and most years top 2 in the Southern Conference we would avg 7,500 to 8,500 a year.
During the Ron Jirsa era 2004-2007 our attendance dropped to 3300, which is embarrassing.
I believe that Dan can get us close to the 75-8500 a year again.
Marshall's bigger problem is the Henderson Center really needs to be replaced. It was built from 1979-81 and opened in 1981, but it was built with funds taken away, the 1st construction firm walked off the project when it had 3.5 million taken away from it. Also 5 years after it was built there was a huge crack that went right down the middle of the arena.
Hopefully Mike Hamrick at least starts a campaign to replace the Henderson Center before he retires.
Henderson Center looks a lot nicer on the outside than inside....inside it looks a lot older than 1981. I don't like the steepness of the seats but I bet it can get really loud with 8+k in there. I think it was year before last or maybe year before that when Marshall had a kids or family night when Western was there. I believe there was over 7k at that game. At times it got loud.

The Henderson Center looks amazing when its full.
UCF at Marshall 2012
In the next 5-7 years Id like to see a capital campaign to replace the Henderson Center like the Vision Campaign had to build the IPF/Sports Med Center/Academic center and Soccer Stadium. The Herd could play 2 years in the Big Sandy Arena (Huntington Civic Center).
Damn is that right? Arkansas St. averaged 1,448 fans in 2016? Has to be a misprint if not that is unbelievable.....
3915 for us is embarrassing, I thought with STans first season we would see a bigger bump in attendance....Hopefully this season we can at least get to 4500 average which is respectable at least...

There are middle schools here in Murfreesboro that get more for their girl's games.
When I was in HS, 87-90, we avged over 1,000 per basketball game and our highest attendance was 712 for the school. And we were never that dominate, just good, we would win 18-20 games in a 25 game season.
I would say those at the bottom really need to step up. The thing is 2 of the 4 at the bottom have no intention to ever step it up and treat basketball as if it was golf or bowling.

You aren't dead last because your admin actually cares what goes on, This conference has 2 schools that their admin just doesn't care about basketball at all. I don't even think those 2 schools need to be mentioned because I'm pretty sure everyone can figure it out.
And truthfully I don't see their admins views changing anytime soon. Which is a pretty sad situation.

That's what you call an uptick not skewed. Everyone has better attendance when you win. But with winning at our level comes a lot harder to schedule. It is looking more and more likely that Dan will have to schedule a DII this year in the regular season. He has had 6 P5 schools turn us down for a one and done at their place and had 3 mid majors turn down a H/H starting at their place this year. Its looking more and more like no one wants to play against the D'Antoni style of basketball.

It certainly helps that D'Antoni teams play an exciting brand of hoops, as well. What basketball fan wouldn't want to watch that ? I enjoyed the hell out of watching the Herd in The 'Ham-- until it got too close for comfort, that is
