RE: Wow!
The Sophomore mandate can seem a bit fascist but it will in the longer run generally leave them with memories they'll cherish. I think it well reasoned that the policy will lead to both better retention and higher academic performance. Being more expensive, the question should be asked and prepared for, can the university retain it's state leader position as lowest student debt with this policy in place? That is probably a more important number.

For higher campus residency to be maintained, I think the university needs to continually build relations with and encourage NEW neighborhood employers to provide that pocket and summer cash to their students. To keep on my high horse about it, stop building athletic fields and unnecessary campus police stations and start building research parks so that Professors and students can supplement both their salaries as well as improve their research to market opportunities.

Good choices.

Those meal plans must be a little pricier than the ol' days. Taco Bell on Secor (roughly where Gradkowski's is now, I believe) was considered a major splurge.

Pizza Inn on the site of Lum's was across Secor. It was an all you could eat pizza buffet. One night the Toledo Troopers came in. Those girls could eat.

We had two choices. We could eat in the Parks cafeteria or not eat. There were certain offerings where the "not eat" option became viable.

RE: Wow!
What next, banning ramen noodles? Not sure this is the college experience, seems bound to groom a bunch of wimps.

Look for my go-fund-me for "College Student 101 Cafe." (hmmm, nice name) We will serve left over pizza for breakfast. Ramen noodles and PBJ (two jelly choices) for lunch, Mac and Cheese for dinner and eat-in, delivery pizza for late snack. We will have 13 inch in-COLOR tv's at every eating table. !!!

Best food in the city where I went WAS at the dorm. The manager was magic. Then she retired. Experience changed.

Lucky. When I was at Carter it was a Pizza Hut / University food services combo joint.

Everything Pizza Hut had, plus whatever school-lunch quality meal the chubby guy in the white t-shirt and greasy mustache came up with that day.

RE: Wow!
Is there no place to get a decent meal on campus? Student Union had that all-you-can eat, they would have some nice creative plate meals. Libbey Hall had good meals, a few times I even drove to campus just to eat there it was such a nice setting with monogramed plates. Can't imagine surviving college on fast food, be it BK, pizza or CFA

Phoenicia in the Union. Great sit-down restaurant with quality dining choices. Also serves alcohol. I used to celebrate getting through a tough exam with a glass of wine and some hummus right after.

Nice to see Phoenicia is still there. I used to wonder how long it was up in that hidey hole before I "discovered" it roaming hallways to see what all was in the Union. I'd Like to see campus invest in at least one restaurant space with a classy setting AND primo campus view and reasonable prices. A little taste of luxury can be a real motivator for a student from lower income. Only got one or two during my years but I remember them well. That's one reason I really liked Libbey Hall, fake piano music and all. Food was good too.
