Birmingham Medical College and "UAB's" first football team:
Birmingham Medical College, considered a direct predecessor in the lineage of UAB operated in Birmingham under a state charter from 1894 to 1915, becoming part of the University of Alabama in September of 1912. In its latter years, the college was located on 6th Avenue South, adjacent to Hillman Hospital.
In 1911, the Birmingham Medical College fielded a football team. There is documentation of at least three games played by the college that year.
• Albertville Agricultural School 59, BMC 0
• Alabama Presbyterian 53, BMC 0
• Marion Military Institute 71, BMC 0
Not much else is known, but athletics were formed in 1910 and began play in 1911; the school colors were blue and gold and that at least 21 of the graduates had played college football.
The school also fielded a baseball team that defeated Howard College and a Cross Country team that participated in the Birmingham Athletic Club meet.
