Facebook will stream 15 college football games worldwide through Stadium
It's finally here. Each of these 15 college football games will be streamed live to a global audience on Facebook this year:
Miami OH @ Marshall 9/2
UC Davis @ San Diego St 9/2
Idaho St @ Utah St 9/7
New Mexico St @ New Mexico 9/9
FIU @ Rice 9/23
Utah St @ San Jose St 9/23
Texas St @ Wyoming 9/30
Southern Miss @ UTSA 10/7
Wyoming @ Utah St 10/14
Rice @ UTSA 10/21
FIU @ Marshall 10/28
North Texas @ Louisiana Tech 11/4
Southern Miss @ Rice 11/11
Marshall @ UTSA 11/18
FAU @ Charlotte 11/25
These 15 games are exclusive to Facebook; Can't be watched on any other platform. This is very interesting.....How we watch live games and how it effects college sports tv contracts in the future.....will be interesting to see if this has anything to do with conferences and realignment.

I absolutely love it. For those few billion people who like to get on Facebook to see what their friends are doing or liking a funny quote, or to get the news or whatever else they do....now they can catch a college football game.

The trouble with putting games on social media is that the flavor of the month moves so quickly the conferences and other TV platforms can't keep up with what is trending.
Instagram is the choice of more users now and facebook is being forgotten. Next year, it'll be something different and new.

Finally, our legions of fans at Miami's Luxembourg campus will see the 2 AM football they've been craving for years.

Marshall has 3 games on Facebook this year. UTSA has 3. The November game of Marshall vs UTSA could be one of the bigger CUSA conference games this year. I'm interested to see how many people watch these games....This is certainly different

I applaud the effort. It simply means more college football for me. The thought that a platform like FB, Twitter or SC could ever completely replace ESPN or Fox is wishful thinking.
The problem for upstarts like those bringing college athletics to these new platforms is loyal consumers won't watch in numbers large enough to pay anything. The element that made these platforms so enticing in the first place is the fact that makes them so volatile. Young people that make up the core of FB users are already moving on.
It's a cycle. My Space to Facebook, Facebook to Twitter, Twitter to SnapChat.....
My Son told me years ago why he shutdown his FB account: too many old people. Judging from recent reports, see Monday's USA Today, he's not the only one.
Bottom line is loyal fans will find your games on whatever platform your games are on. The question is will casual fans? I'm betting they won't.

I never said anything about replacing ESPN.
There was a day that both you and me remember that games were played on ABC, CBS and NBC. There was a day when I watched allmost all my teams games on a local affiliate station...for free (my family didn't get cable until I was 16 in 1993) Why won't loyal fans and a few casual ones watch a game on Facebook?
More options....more free options are a good thing for college football fans, no?

Agreed
I am much older than you. I can remember when you got one game a weekend. More college football is never a bad thing as far as I'm concerned.

This is talk.
Facebook has 81 million male users aged 25 and up just in the USA, and that number grew last year. Facebook is now up there with Amazon, Apple, and Google in terms of market value so for a flavor of the month, it's a pretty strong flavor, LOL.
This is a fantastic opportunity for those schools, those games are effectively OTA because they are completely free to the end-user.
Talk about exposure! I plan to tune in this Saturday just to see what it's like.
