Greetings JMU Nation
Greetings JMU Nation,
The time draws near and I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of your passionate fanbase to our inviting city of Greenville. As the Emeritus AD at ECU I have worked dilligently to support your very own Jeff Compher as he leads our athletics department. The master plan I built many moons ago is slowly, but surely coming to fruition and it includes your beloved Dukes. Unfortunately, Father Time is catching up with me and I'm not sure how many more years I can be an active consultant for the betterment of collegiate athletics. Please allow me to lay out my vision and how it came to be.
I first became connected to Harrisonburg while recruiting the great Ralph Sampson in the late 70's. I enjoyed the conversations with your fantastic coach Lou Campanelli and always admired how he constantly overachieved with his teams. Little did I know that my college coach and mentor, Lefty Driesell, would eventually become head coach at James Madison. I followed intently and rooted for his success from across the mountain initially and then from afar as I moved into athletics administration. When I transitioned from Davidson to Virginia to East Carolina I watched the ECAC South/CAA evolve and change conference membership which disconnected ECU from James Madison in 2001 before I could take the reins and preserve what is naturally right. 20 years of affiliation were sacrificed and there has been a void ever since. We have too many similarities to not be joined at the hip. My passion has been to create an East Coast Conference to match like-minded institutions that makes geographic sense for natural rivalries and minimal travel. I have always pushed for changes that are in the best interest of student-athletes. Student-athletes want to play compelling opponents and we owe it to them to minimize days away from class.
Here is where I need your help. My labor of love has not moved the needle enough in Harrisonburg. At first, my vision was poo-pooed by President Linwood Rose who lacked the understanding of collegiate athletics and its impact on a university as a whole. Then, Jon Alger took office and failed to match his actions with his speech. The rhetoric suggested a move to utilize FBS football as an expanded front porch for JMU on the way to a National University profile. However, he has been a limp wrist when it comes to taking bold, decisive steps for the good of the cause. From my experience I know that the JMU Nation is not represented well by Jon Alger. I'm requesting that you have no holds barred in the coming weeks with regards to influencing his decisions on advancement to FBS football. I know that you have the ability to change his stance and get him to become the real voice of JMU Nation. You can do whatever you see fit to get him to see the light.
As Lauren Daigle would say,
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in yoooouuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
As for the September 2nd intercollegiate tackle football contest, I predict the Purple & Gold will win and you can take that to the bank. Please stop by my pregame function and bring Jon Alger so we can talk business, even if you have to tie and bind him as a hostage. We will have plenty of East Carolina BBQ and Sweet Tea to go around.
Your buddy,
Terry Holland

I love the ghost of Terry H., but he may have given us too much credit with the quote "I know that you have the ability to change his stance and get him to become the real voice of JMU Nation."

Ghost of Terry has always been optimistic that Jon Boy Alger will have a Grinch-like change of heart regarding JMU's place in the landscape of big boy tackle football.
Like maybe Alger, Bourne, and King are looking out over a packed BFS awestruck, thinking, "They came without bowl games or competing in FBS. they came without streaming, ESPN or CBS. Maybe JMU football isn't about empty promises lied, maybe JMU football, they thought, is about these Dukes' pride." And then their hearts grew three sizes and they negotiated a great TV deal and a fee-free entry into AAC.

Doesn't terry holland posting usually doom us? I hope ECU fans get a good chuckle from this long standing "dropping by" poster.

It's funny you say that... I was thinking the same thing as I was reading what GoTH had posted.
