This article mentions the possibility of Bob Stoops joining the CFP committee, which needs to replace 6 members after this season.

Three of those guys -- Hocutt, Long, and Radakovich -- will be replaced by another AD from another school in their own conference. The other three places are theoretically open to retired or semi-retired former coaches, athletes, administrators, and media types (which is what Jernstedt, Willingham, and Wieberg are).

Any ideas on who could or should take these places on the committee?

I'd like to see Nick Saban join that committee next year.

For the outgoing ADs, I would recommend Scott Stricklin (UF), Chris Del Conte (TCU) and Whit Babcock (VT). All are long-time and respected ADs and are on the younger side of the position, while being at football schools. Greg Byrne (Alabama) would be a great choice because of his former ties to the PAC-12, but I'm not sure they would want an Alabama representative on the committee, or even an AD that just started at the school/conference.

For outgoing administrative roles, I would recommend Dennis Erickson to replacement Willingham (so PAC-12 can keep some influence, while also giving consideration to the ACC for his Miami tenure). I would also recommend Dan Beebe (for his past work for the NCAA, not the Big 12) and Paul Tagliabue.

It would be great if a guy like George O'Leary would be on the committee, just because he would have ties to both the ACC and the G5, but I doubt that will happen. For similar reasons, Tommy Tuberville would also make for a solid choice as a former coach.

I think Les will be out for conflict of interest. He is now working for ESPN again, obliquely. He will be a SECN analyst.

Erickson and Tuberville are good choices because they each coached at a few different schools. Dick Tomey is another former head coach at a few different schools.

Seems like they also have a spot open for a retired media type or someone else who has ties to the sport but isn't a former coach, given that Jernstedt and Wieberg are leaving the committee.

Tommy Bowden would be a good former coach. He has ties to the Big XII (played and was a GA at West Virginia) the SEC (coached at Auburn, Alabama, and Kentucky) AAC (HC at Tulane) and the ACC (coached at Duke and FSU, was HC at Clemson)

Yep, I knew him when he was at Auburn. He's a quiet, well read, thoughtful guy without agenda. I'd be perfectly comfortable with him in that role. Stoops on the other hand....well let's just say his mentor was Spurrier who is anything but one without an opinion or an agenda. I like Spurrier and think he's a great coach, and I think Stoops' record speaks for itself, but I think Bob has some of Steve's social tendencies.

The CFP's management committee (the 10 FBS conference commissioners plus Notre Dame's AD) collects nominations, discusses candidates, and chooses the selection committee members other than the five ADs. Technically, the management committee also has final say over the appointment of ADs on the selection committee, but it looks like, in practice, each AD on the selection committee is chosen by his/her own conference. Also, at least on paper, the CFP board (one university president from each conference plus ND's president) could change any decision of the management committee, presumably including the appointment of selection committee members.

He may be too old, but they should consider Hayden Fry.

Former head coach for SMU, North Tex and then 20 more years at Iowa. Has a coaching tree that includes Bill Synder, Bob Stoops, Barry Alverez, and many more assistants that became head coaches.
