New QB, new WRs, loose NFL lineman = no although I'm rooting for WMU and all MAC teams to win OOC games.

USC 42 - WMU 9

Can they win? Yes.
Will they win? I'm not predicting anything, but as a fan, I hope they will and I expect them to play hard for 60 minutes and leave it all on the field.

I'm thinking in between Heartbreak L and Woodshed L.

Our short passes and running game will move the chains between the 20s just enough to chew some clock and keep it from getting toooo nasty.

41-17

I think it looks bad early... WMU makes a game of it just before half and we get some hope... and its dashed quickly in the second half as USC walks away after half.

RE: WMU vs. USC
USC is -27.5. Take the points!!! WMU to cover 20-38. A couple long drives that will prove their run defense to be vulnerable. Not enough firepower if they stack the box to exploit the secondary. USC is coming at it as a tune up as we should for the MSU game. Get our kicker some confidence. Stay healthy and gain valuable experience. Find a couple targets that will torch MSUs thin and inexperienced secondary without showing too much of what we will unleash week2.

I'm thinking of betting on it, actually. I think USC is going to overlook us more than a B1G team would of course, but probably not fully, being opening day & their coach reminding them that this WMU team went to the Cotton Bowl to keep them motivated.

That said, I think it all comes down to Wassink and his ability to keep the chains moving with a set of WRs who will be kicking off their real playing time in the big Coliseum. Lester seems to have kept the spirit going with the team, though.

I would probably guess the best probability is that we lose by 24 (41-17), and by us eating up clock with a running game, and USC themselves being a little rusty keeps it from going too out of control... while a little higher probability WMU losing by 21 instead (like 45-24) getting some "garbage time", vs losing by over 28pts.

If one can find a point spread that's @-28.5 -- requiring USC to beat us by over 4 TDs, then IMO, it'd be a no-brainer to bet on Us, if one was in the mood to bet on a football game. The average right now is -27.5, with the odds pretty steady at -27, -27.5, and -28.

Here's a betting breakdown from a European site (lol):

Are you asking "Can" we win, or "will" we win?

Possibility is different than a prediction.

ESPN puts it at a 5.5% chance. I'd say more like 10%.

41-17

Too much transition for WMU for an early season game against a legit National Championship contender from one of the toughest P5 conferences.

WMU will show some flashes of brilliance, but a few Bronco turnovers and big plays by USC will turn the game into a rout. I'd be surprised if WMU is still in the game by the 4th quarter. It will probably be over by halftime.

Hope I am wrong.

42 -10 Song Girls, er, ah, USC.

Major, you're the only one that caught that. With all the doom and gloom of everyone (including this fan base) predicting the Broncos going out to L.A. just to collect a check and receive a butt whipping, I wanted to see if anyone in Broncos Nation actually believes in their school enough to think the Broncos could beat USC.

Do I think the Broncos will beat USC? Not really.

DO I think the Broncos could beat USC? Yes.

You better not bet on us Todd. If we ever find out you bet on WMU to win you will be castrated.

RE: WMU vs. USC
I'm voting WMU wins big. But I'm defining a big win as any win. We win by 1 point, it's a big win.

WMU winning with a newby QB and WRs is low percentage bet wise but I have a hunch we will be loose not tight, and by crazy luck we our stuff works early, USC gets tight and overplays stuff, we get a pick, we get a couple kicks, may some kind of special team stuff and at the end of the day WMU fans are drunk with positivity and those elite USC cheerleaders are stuck with a gloomy weekend.

Let's ride.

LOL. This reads like a motivational speech! We should have Ernie give the pre-game speech to the players. I'd follow DE into the gates of hell and I have voted accordingly.

I didn't vote because I see it as between a butt whupping and reasonably close. Something like 35 - 17. This assumes that our defense plays well. Limit explosive plays. If not, could get ugly.

Against P5 opponents, the Broncos historically rarely ever score more than 2 TDs on offense. Add in a couple of kicks and........
