If by a USC cheerleader in a provocative way, and the spread's real big -- I may have to do so. 03-wink

Quote:UCLA plays in the Rose Bowl. Not USC... come on Todd

Yes you're right, I'm a moron. I edited!

Quote:WMU winning with a newby QB and WRs is low percentage bet wise but I have a hunch we will be loose not tight, and by crazy luck we our stuff works early, USC gets tight and overplays stuff, we get a pick, we get a couple kicks, may some kind of special team stuff and at the end of the day WMU fans are drunk with positivity and those elite USC cheerleaders are stuck with a gloomy weekend.

Man, I wish that'd happen... but I see no indicators of it to develop any hunch near that level. While I can see a hunch that we don't play super tight in intimidation or anything, I certainly see USC NOT playing tight at all. I think we were spoiled with the turnover margin of last year (sans our last two games) -- and that I certainly can't expect the same this year... although I don't see it being in the opposite direction.

However, brand new coaches, brand new QB, new WRs, and new season on USC's turf -- I see reasonable expectations, at best, having the turnover margin even. We will definitely need to do well in that regard + have USC play off-kilter for a good while, while we're surprisingly on-target to make it a relatively close game or better.

To me, cutting it to a 2 possession game at the end would be a big WIN for me. For USC: At home. Heisman Candidate as their QB. They're #4 in the nation. :)

USC #4, cool, if we win we are top 10 minimum.

Got to like the opportunity.

Nah, they'll just say USC is overrated and we'll be ranked somewhere between #20-25.

rooting for the broncos. will be watching the game. usc has some monsters. big fast mean guys all over the field. they are loaded with talent everywhere. that said. they are college kids and USC plays a lot of underclassmen. so they can be inconsistent with execution and fundamentals. western will need to take advantage of every opportunity. toledo went into arkansas a couple years ago when they were highly ranked (not quite #4). they supposedly had the biggest greatest line in college football history. guys like 6-8 345 across. toledo was more physical at the point of attack. had better execution. made their line look slow. refused to shoot themselves in the foot. got turnovers and sneaked out of there with a win. western needs to run the ball perfectly. get first downs control some clock. make fgs. protect the end zone. get the loose balls. USC will be ready.

This game day preview from Riegnoftroy.com goes back to 1903! Credit this website for putting in the work, much better than the media representing the Green and White who are much closer and should have a better grasp of what's happening in Kalamazoo. All I've read from them is no more Fleck, no more Davis- automatic W. WMU will be USCs first ever MAC opponent?! https://reignoftroy.com/2017/08/27/usc-v...o-preview/

There's a reason for that.

Yes, pono, Toledo beat Arkansas. But Arkansas isn't USC.

That Toledo win over Arkansas was epic!

It was thrilling to see a MAC team beat an SEC team.

However, as the good Major said, USC is at another level. It also is not dumb enough to hire Dan Enos as its offensive coordinator.

I just want WMU to return from California healthy. This game could become cringe-worthy, fast.

Will they win? I'm not predicting anything, but as a fan, I hope they will and I expect them to play hard for 60 minutes and leave it all on the field.

Way to go out on a limb.

I predict if we win Alec Gores in conjunction with one of our biggest donors will pay to Bowl in the endzone, calling it the Gores Acer West Endzone.

Whatever. I'm not going out on a limb predicting any Broncos games anymore. When I predict Broncos games I can't pick them to lose and I usually end up disappointed. So, I just choose to sit back and enjoy the ride, except of course when they lose.

it would be great for Acer to react to that prediction but apparently his password doesn't work on his account and he hasn't posted here in well over a year.He was silent during the Broncos undefeated regular season...imagine that. He needs another ID for this site like 90% of the traffic here.

If USC hired Dan Enos in the offseason as their OC -- I would Definitely be putting money down on WMU to beat the spread (+27.5).

A lot of this was outlined here a couple years ago, but here's how the game came to be:

I feel like WMU covers, but doesn't win. Feeling like the Ohio State game two years ago.

RE: WMU vs. USC
WMU has success if:

1. WMU wins turnover battle. Even if both teams don't turn it over. Protecting the ball should remain job #1.
2. WMU has both Franklin AND Bogan go over 100yds on the ground. Saying you have a fabulous running attack and proving it are two different animals. WMU needs to prove that they can run the ball... and run the ball well.
3. Wassink completes over 60% of his passes, and again... doesn't turn it over.
4. WMU defense keeps USC under 35 points in the game and forces USC to go to the ground game by locking down a young USC WR corps.
5. MOST IMPORTANTLY - WMU comes out injury free.

If the Broncos do those things against most teams they win the game.

Yeah. A close-game loss at the very worst. IMO, it'd be more than a success. For herd's take -- the key is no INTs, no fumbles, 60%+ passing, 202+ yards rushing, and keeping opposing @34pts or less. With no turnovers on our part, and a SOLID running game, we'd have to be facing a bend-but-don't-break D by USC (quite possible). At worst, IMO, it'd be 34-24 USC. That's a Great success, in what I'd see as the worst in that scenario... not merely lighting up a "success" mark against #4 in the nation who won the Rose Bowl last year and is to be better this year.

My perspective:
CRYING: We lose scoring 0 or 3 pts, giving up over 52pts
UGH: We lose by 34+
Not-Great: We lose by 28+
"Par": We lose by 24
Good: We lose by 20-21
Great: We lose by 10-14
Awesome!!: We lose by 1 possession
A Particular Virginity is Lost: We win by 1 possession
A Particular Virginity is Lost on Video: We win by 2+ possessions
