Certainly a factor, but years ago, both Louisville and ECU went through similar periods on the field without their overall finances treading water or backsliding. UL was actually going winless as their new stadium was going up IIRC. Anybody on this board can do the job if it's just a matter of shrugging your shoulders and saying, "We didn't sell many tickets this year because the team stinks. Lop a zero off our assets." One of the things we desperately need to do is diversify and add to our income sources. McGillis, who I actually liked a lot otherwise, simply wasn't making enough headway to that end.

Sponsorships, higher Eagle Club participation, and better media arrangements are the obvious ones. Then add whatever else someone more familiar with the world of college athletics than I can come up with. Hoping we'll eventually win enough games to sell $10 million more worth of tickets is pretty futile. Other schools in similar boats as ours and worse have grown their athletic budgets over periods of a few years, some rather impressively. Their names & finances have been noted on this board 3 times in the past 6-7 years each time we've been shopping for a new A.D. It can be done, and there are people out there who know how to do it.

Nope. I'm talking about Sun Belt level programs and a couple not in FBS altogether. Search the archives. We've talked about them.

Hammond is controversial because he's caustic. You can't have your head fund raiser collecting money from some people while insulting & pissing off other people. That's a zero-sum game.

I'll agree with you on RG, stang..

But when I actually talked to BM up here in Missouri during the last NIT tourney, he actually had business sense in that regard and was working on the right direction to make us more notable for the expected AAC expansion.

As for Bennett forcing out McGillis.. I'm not sure I believe that, but I do believe that when McGillis failed to get USM into the AAC, that he knew the writing was on the wall, as he was brought in primarily to build us up to that slot.

The Mac I referred to was prior to RG...Billy McG or BM was in a fight with two left hands both tied behind his back so I don't fault him for what did or didn't happen. I fault him for not having a freakin clue was he was getting into when he applied for the position.
