Why doesn't SMU have baseball? It boggles the mind that a Division 1 school in Texas doesn't sponsor baseball.

And yes, I know your friends at UTEP don't sponsor it either.

Because baseball is boring

We had baseball when I was in school there (70's) but it became a casualty of the Death Penalty. Then they needed the field for the new track. Gone.

Here is a brief history of last few years....while the funny stuff that cost SMU probation numero uno was happening...

Also, they made a strategic decision to commit to men's soccer instead. Very good program, one of only 2 D1 men's soccer programs in the entire state of Texas.

I didn't read the Dallas Morning News recap above but I was always told the lack of land/space on campus for a baseball stadium was a big reason. Personally, I much prefer having a soccer team over baseball.

Afterall, soccer is a much more metro sport, and SMU is a metro school.

SMU and El Paso miners totally need baseball my gosh !
Soccer is just plain gross, unAmerican, stupid...nobody watches soccer any more anyway, yeah soccer sux
